So I'm bored last night and on Ebay looking at tools. I've got ot a few searches I like to type in and it's always a good time killer (and wallet emptier haha).

So I came across these Sunex 1/2 drive 43 piece master impact socket sets. Available in both SAE and MM. Part numbers 2568 and 2569. So I was looking at them and reading the descriptions.

Seems like quite the bargain. I've literally got more money ******* in a mix match set of no name and harbor freight impact sockets that is no where near complete.

Seems like you could add a ratchet and breaker bar and of course a cordless impact and be set to handle about anything that would come up especially on a farm or service truck setting.

I have one of the smaller sets and I love it. I will be getting the metric master set once I save up. Follow it on camelcamelcamel, price drops pretty low a few times a year.

I have the 1/2" drive metric and the 3/8" drive metric/SAE sets. Sunex makes extremely high quality impact sockets. I use them with M12 and M18 Milwaukee tools and neither ever leave me wishing for something else.

I've got the master sets in both 1/4" and 3/8" from them and have been very satisfied. If it wasn't for the fact I already had 1/2" covered I wouldn't hesitate to get theirs.

I wouldn't say a bargain, seem popular, not a design I like and not biggest fan of crmo in impacts .

I have a complete set of Sunex metric deep sockets that I really like. I'll be investing in the 3/8 master set when I get a 3/8 impact, but for now the half inch stuff feels well made.

No disrespect Mr. B, but CR-MO is widely regarded as the desirable material for impact sockets in lieu of CR-V. These Sunex sockets are also laser engraved and stamped with the size which also seems to be a very desirable feature. I understand different companies have different broaching but I'm curious what design you prefer and if not CR-MO, what material you favor your impact sockets be made from.

I bought the 1/2" and 3/8" sets and have no complaints... especially for the price, and the lifetime warranty.

Have the 3/8" master set. Insanely complete, well priced, and holds up. Sunex is a great bargain for impact sockets.

impact grade/treated crv, lasts far longer without wallowing in hard use .
etched and stamped is good as is the coverage
any new impact I buy these days is japan style, fully shouldered, deep broached, grooved and stamped

hit and miss, used a 1/4 master set that did and had stepped shouldering up to half length, groove ring and chamfer on drive square leading edge then 3/8 and 1/2 sets that plain jane ... range varies so assume taiwan oems different on specific sets/items thus design points not standard across range .

Don't know where you got yours or what you paid but just as an FYI ACME Tool one of my favorite places for tools and supplies carries a good assortment of Sunex products from tool carts to individual sockets.

I believe they still have free shipping for orders over $200 so worth adding something to the cart if only ordering one master set.

I have the 3/8 master set, use it every day with no complaints. I was starting to tear up chrome gear wrench on the impact so made the change before I did too much, took the chromies home and only have impacts at work now.

I get why most folks love Sunnex impact set. They are well covered in sizes, are fairly well labeled with size markings, made in Taiwan & are CHEAP. But...there are better options out there for the same/less money that have proper pro design and are made out of CR-V. I won't buy another CR-M impact no whatever the price, they just don't hold up to high power impacts. Its not that they break but are too soft and deform at both ends with extended use, even moderate use. Despite what I've said, I get how homeowner mechanic could be satisfied buying a Sunnex master set, you really need to know what features to look for to buy better.

I use the **** out of mine every day, especially the 9/16". Got over 10 years out of it before it was showing pretty good signs of wear, gave to the tool guy for warranty and got another for free. Really can't complain about it.

Bought my Sunex 1/2 impact sockets almost 25 years ago. Metric and SAE, deep and shallow.
Wailed the piss out of them over the years with NO complaints.
I did break the 7/8" and 15/16" deeps, but I was doing way more than I should have.
Warranty was easy, just exchanged at the long-gone Big A auto parts store.

I have mostly (Napa branded) Sunex impact sockets, handful of GP and Matco non-slip's. I have broken the 18, 21, 3/4 & 9/16 in 3/8 drive, All cracked down the side. They were used a lot and hard for the last ten years or so. Warranty was a non-issue through Napa.

Sunex puts out nice complete sets at a good price, but most "cheap" impact sockets will hold up fine. The boss has a set of Stanley CR-V's that are at least 5-6 years old and they look really good for a tire shop socket set (19,21,22 are the most used in the set)

I cant say either material has made me notice any difference, both seem to hold up fine, the CR-V sockets I have used do not seem brittle or prone to cracking any worse then the CR-MO which can wear/deform to some extent.

I tend to agree somewhat on the assessment that Cro-Mo sockets can suffer some undo wear (especially on the drive end) over the more commonly found CrV impacts. My Milwaukee High Torque has beat up the anvil end some of my large Taiwan deep well sockets, 1-5/16, 1-1/2 (mainly used on farm equipment) and even with the compact wrenches on some 3/8" drive deep. Most notably a set from Eastwood (Astro Tools) It's mostly just visual though. The Milwaukee anvils seem to have a wider taper to them than some other impact tools I've used IMO

I do have a set of NT Klutch CrV that has held up extremely well on the same tools

Haven't seen any issue on the socket end.

Just one guys opinion

+1

I have a shallow and deep 1/2" drive standard set that I've been using for over 20 years. The 7/8" is looking a little worn from all the lug nuts I've used it on but I haven't ever broken a socket.

I will say now that most of my fleet it metric/torx they don't get used nearly as much. They'll easily last me until I retire....

Any chance you would be willing to share which options are better for the same/less money?

I'm not sure if there was a question in the original post or not. However, i have long said that most people depending on what you're working on, can skip chrome 1/2 sockets and just use sunex impact sockets.
Tools wear out. If you're not happy getting 5 years or so of hard work out of a $5 impact socket, than the brand might not be for you.
My sunex impact sockets have served me well and I think they're a great addition to anyone's tool box

I think youll be more than happy with the sunex brand. Another one to consider is grey pneumatic. Ive been using them on my service truck for years without a problem. For what its worth, my snap on 1/2 impact sockets especially the 15/16 and 1 1/8 wear out every 6 months. I use them so much on frame bolts and stuff on peterbilts the square end gets all wallowed out. The snap on man comes every week so warranty is no problem, but they are kinda soft.

^ I had same issue with mac and snapon impact sockets that got credit back on them as too soft, popular sizes on the mac set was falling off the anvil in 3 months & I don't want be ******* about chasing sockets & warranty swaps every few months
Is a case of pay less get more on impact sockets with taiwan crv working best for my daily abuse .
