Sunex 3/8 Impact Sockets

I'm looking for more advice from the forum experts regarding impact socket recommendations. I'm looking to acquire a Sunex 3/8 Impact Socket set; not sure what one I should get. It will be used exclusively for automotive (car, truck, ATV, Motorcycle etc.).

From my last impact socket thread (1/2 impact recommendations), I was told newer cars use metric, so I'm gravitating towards metric. I assume newer ATV's and Motorcycles use metric as well. If that's the case, I have little need for SAE impacts right now (I have a traditional socket set...both metric and SAE). Any and all comments, suggestions and wisdom is welcome and encouraged.

I "think" I have it narrowed down to three choices...

If you have the money, get the BIG set. I never have had u-joint sockets, but I can see where they can be useful.

I work on too much "old" stuff to buy a "metric only" set.

What brand atv's? Polaris has a lot of SAE fasteners (with some metric thrown in for good measure).

I would most definitely go with the 3342 set. For $8 more you get sae and mm. I very rarely use swivel/universal sockets, chrome or impact. Plus the 3342 comes with swivel adapter for when you do need it. That's just my opinion.

If I bought the 3351, would I still need the 3342 since that's both Metric and SAE?

Wouldn't I just need a pure SAE set?

Yes exactly. I'm not sure why he said that. If anything get the 3342 then fill in the swivels afterwards if needed.

I agree with the 3351 & add sae if needed. When I bought it I never thought I would need a 22 universal but it was the first one I used. As someone who recently went through all these options it's cheaper to do it that way than to add the universals & the sizes the other sets don't have. Sae sets usually go a little bigger so it shouldn't be an issue that way. Next headache is deciding how to store them if you don't want to use the case

anyone know roughly when that sunex sale happens? The big rebate one where you can get them for almost half off.

3351 is what i would get.

That was last June. They've run another big rebate sale since then but the prices weren't nearly as good. I think that may have been a once in a lifetime kinda dealy.

They had run the rebate the summer before that as well, could be doing it again this year.

The last one just ran from January to March 31. Although it wasn't amazing, its still better than any rebate I've seen Snap On or Matco offer to the general public. I think I will email them and ask if they are doing that again any time soon.

After reviewing the feedback and some careful deliberation, I choose the Sunex 3351 set; All metric that doesn't skip any sizes. Thanks to everyone that contributed to my thread...

I was at my friend's dad's house a ways back; he was helping me do some work on the van. We were trying to remove a bolt, but couldn't find the right socket size (tried both metric and SAE). I didn't think anything of it at the time, but now I know we were missing the correct size needed. That's pretty basic to a lot of you, but when you're new you assume that both socket sets would have all that is needed...not so much. So I went with the full encompassing metric set; then down the road go with a full SAE set.

I didn't know I needed universal sockets until I watched this video...

I bought 3329 during last years summer rebate. It has been awesome. The swivel stands up great to my Ingersol titanium. Bought it for size coverage up to 22 and while it is a rarely used size I am very happy with the set as a whole. Bonus the sockets are laser etched and hard stamped
