Sunex or ATD impact sockets?

I am in need of a set of 3/8" drive shallow and deep well impact sockets, and have been looking at the ATD-4601 and Sunex 3342 sets.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/42-Piece-3-...0861295309&pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&vxp=mtr

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Advanced-To...43349890?pt=US_Hand_Tools&hash=item3389177c82

Both are 42pc kits, with extension and swivel adapter. I'm assuming both are Chinese or Taiwan, and I am curious if they are simply the same sets with different badges.

Anyone have experience with either set? Any better option for similar money? The ATD kit is around $20 cheaper, but either would be perfect for my needs.

I have a couple sets of GP impacts, and really like them, but they are considerably more expensive than either the ATD or Sunex sets.

Everyone on here seems to really like the Sunex...I have Cman USA shallow, SO deep, and SO semi-deep. I would look at semi-deep....they are my go to now; walk back to the box if I NEED a shallow or deep...

Sunex are great for the money. COO is Taiwan.

I know some of the Sunex wrenches are Chinese, are all of the sockets made in Taiwan?

I'm not someone who buys tools based solely on warranty, but it is something to consider.

ATD says you have to warranty them therough the retailer you purchased them from. Good luck finding an ebay seller and getting them to warranty a tool several years down the road.

Warranty, Maintanance, Defects or Returns?
Please contact or return to point of purchase.

With Sunex, you can warranty them directly through the company. But it does say you need proof of purchase.

Return equipment or tools to Sunex® Tools or an Authorized Sunex® Warranty Center, SHIPPING PREPAID. Be certain to include your name, address and contact information, proof of purchase date, and a description of the suspected defect.

The Sunnex sockets are Taiwanese and excellent impacts sockets. I have a set I've been using 20 years now with no issues.

I understand buying a set of Snap on for the warranty but buying a set of GP or Sunex for like 20 - 30 bucks is hard not to do.

I have a couple sets of Sunnex in pretty steady use for at least 10 years with no problems, and I've actually cracked a couple Snap On impacts in that time.

I have Sunex, half of mine at work atleast.
But both feel like a little higher quality of hf. Great impacts mind you. I don't know who would warranty latter on for you though.

I hate to be that guy. But what about hf? Should be a quicker purchase, and product in hand, and warranty later on.

But to your op question, i would choose sunex.

I've had the ATD set for 3 years. No problems. Pretty good quality for the price.

I have had mu Sunex stuff for a good fifteen years at least.
I am still thrilled with them.

I think they might be bullet proof or bomb proof or something like that.

Our Napa sells ATD, not sure if all of them do but I would look into it. Makes warrant very easy if ever needed.

Forgot to update the thread...I've been using the Sunex set for a couple of weeks, and have been very happy thus far. Sockets have worked very well with a DeWalt 18v 3/8" impact, haven't tried them with an actual air gun yet.

I have the 3/8" drive SAE Master set 3325 and the SAE midlength 3327 and like them a bunch. Plan on getting the metric equivalent one of these days...

No better than harbor freight or the craftsman evolv if it's crv taiwan just those usually don't come in cases as far as I know. But...3/8 not 1/2. I'd probably go with sunex in this case I think ATD does a ton of rebranding (like...everything they sell!) but I suppose sunex doesn't really (their crv impact look a bit different in my recollection though this set might be a rebrand, don't know). A lot of this stuff get's rebranded so you know...might find it cheaper but the warranty will be spotty.

Please don't tell me matco is selling this exact same set in a different colored case for more than double because that what it looks like and that would grind my gears.

I have a Sunex set that was made in Japan with a steel case,Sunex impact sockets used to be made in Japan in a steel case.I priced a GP and Sunex set where I buy my GP stuff online,One GP set was a penny higher than the Sunex set.

Yes atd is a rebrander, like similar Napa tools. I don't have a lot and bought most of the dozen or so things including a socket set in a real store on sale. A couple things were impressive enough to go back and duplicate. 3/8 wobble extensions and adjustable wrench sets.
I had my doubts at first but it has proven out, they are big enough outfit and understand parts stores, convenient pricing is hard to beat.
Had everything they labeled work better than I expected.

I used to have a couple of sets of these and they seemed like quality sockets. Ultimately, I needed bigger stuff for working on my Super Duty so I picked up a couple of sets of old USA Craftsman.
