Anyone have any recent experience with Sunex stuff?

There was lots of Sunex on the independent tool dealers trucks 20 years ago, but all those guys went away (over 12 years ago since last one was around) and I was left with only a couple of the big name tool trucks, so I haven't seen any of this stuff lately. I recently went looking for some stuff and stumbled across Sunex being sold online. I remember their stuff being good working stuff - not fancy or as shiny chrome as the big names, but very decent workable tools.

The vast majority of all my impact sockets are Sunex. I get them off of my independent tool guys truck. He sells a lot of Sunex all over the place. SK is his big brand. But he'll tell you he makes more money off of Sunex. I've got them as small as 6mm 3/8 drive all the way up to an 1 1/2 in a 3/4 drive. I've even got a 33mm 1" drive never had a single socket slip, break or otherwise.

I even have a couple 3/8 drive universal sockets that don't give me problems. They do break every now and again. But it's usually after having 1/2" impact on them. I have nothing to say bad about Sunex sockets. I use them all day everyday pretty hard and haven't had an issue.

I used their 33mm wrench to turn nut on my kd balancer installer. Worked fine. I compared the sunex flank drive w/ a craftsman flank drive wrench. I thought the craftsman looked like to engaged fastener better. But in the real world conditions the sunex did fine.

The impact sockets are great. As of 3yrs ago(the 1/2 ones i have).
They make good stuff. If i don't have it in SO, or Mac, it's prob. Sunex, as far as everything else goes. Just no wrenches, or impact guns.

I love my sunnex impact sockets I have been using them daily for 8 years. And I have a wrench set from them I really like also quality has always been excellent for the money. And on the occasion I have had to warranty which hasn't been often. I've never had an issue warranting through sunnex or an Indy dealer

The impact sockets are great and about the best deal around in my opinion. They are the same as the imported Napa impact sockets. I also have 1/2" Crowfeet which are pretty good. The rest of the line I don't get real excited about as it looks typical lower end import quality.

They take longer to get a replacement tool.Broke a Sunex 18mm impact swivel once and took a couple monthes to get a replacement.This was through a Carquest auto parts store now closed through a buy out.

I recently acquired a new set of Sunex 3/8" metric impact sockets. I haven't used them much yet but so far I am pleased with their quality. The only knock I have against them is the drive side of the sockets are not beveled.

I generally only buy US or European made tools but decided to go with these because...

A. General opinion seems to be that for impact sockets, Taiwanese made impact sockets seem to work and hold up as well as American made sockets (even in a professional environment). The key thing to watch for is make sure they are made from CR-MO steel.

B. I am not a pro and don't use impacts very often.

C. I am not a fan of Chinese made tools at all but my experience with Taiwanese made tools have been positive.

D. Out of the commonly found Taiwanese made CR-MO steel impact sockets (Grey, Sunex, Gearwrench, HF), I choose Sunex because they are the only ones who actually stamp the size markings on the socket (as well as laser engrave them) and they had the only 3/8 metric (standard and deep) set that went up to 21mm.

Their impact sockets work well. Honestly I think they are the same as HF or Northern Impacts. Which are both good as long as they are CR-MO.

I have Sunnex stubby wrenches SAE and their half moon wrench set also. Both work well. Not as good as top USA brands obviously but definitely serviceable.

I like their impact sockets because they have nice deep sizing stamps. I like GP too, similar quality but they don't have the stamping, just laser usually.

Last year I bought a load of new tools that came from a distributor that had gone out of business. The impacts were Sunex; sold some and kept a lot as well. I'm impressed w/ their quality. Although they distribute a lot of other tools, they appear to be best known for their sockets.

I've never had an issue warranting any of the universals I've broken. If I've had to wait it's been within a week I've gotten my new one.

I have alot of their sockets, two crowsfeet (big ones), and a couple sets of wrenches.

The wrenches are china (IIRC), and nothing to really brag about. They work but I keep them in my truck took kit. I would not want to use them all the time. I dont think they'd hold up, but I may be wrong.

Ok, well I'm glad it the general consensus is about what I expected -- cause I ordered all 4 sets of larger 1/2 drive crowfoot wrenches. We'll see how they look soon.

I use the 1/2" crowfoot regularly on hard to reach hydraulic fittings. The only complaint I have is there is no detent notch to keep it on the end of my extension, need to wrap it with tape/wire or it falls off.

Is any 3/4">1/2" drive adapter better than the Sunex 4305 TAIWAN one?
I know,I know the Snap On GLASIF has a replaceable drive square if you break it-but it is "non impact"

That's exactly what got me searching for 'em. More and more complex manifold set ups with tighter access, even bigger lines, and now more different series of fittings along with metrics.

Great tools. Seeing/experiencing the quality I would have paid more than I did for them. And they stand up to 60 hours a week of abuse. Nice big product line too.

I picked up a screwdriver set from Fisher a few months back when I was on the road and in a pinch. Not bad at all to be honest. Think they were around $20, I think they could take a hell of a beating if they had to. Definitely better than Chinaman that's for damned sure.

I have a metric shitload of NAPA branded Sunex impact sockets 3/8 - 3/4 drive and swivel sockets. They're awesome!

Have some impact sockets from them as well as some pipe plug sockets. very good quality IMO. Also have their prybar holder on my shop cart , good item as well.

Also, Sunex won't warranty a tool without a receipt, according to their website. I'm not someone who buys tools solely based on warranty, but it's something to consider. I personally would choose other brands.

That's why I bought the NAPA versions. Extra couple bucks for easy warranty and I can get any socket within a day. I don't generally care about warranty that much but for swivel sockets and such it makes sense.

Bought the master impact socket sets years ago and love them.

My requirements were:

-Large size range with no skips
-Stamped sizing on the socket because laser etching wears off easily.
-Can buy individual sockets of any size so if I lose or break one it's cheap and easy to replace
-Reasonable price

Sunex and grey pneumatic were the only choices at the time and i ended up buying sunex. LOVE them. Zero regrets.

Since all my 1/2 impacts(and 1/2 swivel/universals), back up screwdrivers, and so on at work, are sunex. I suprised my brother a few months ago with some. That's how much i trust them. He was happy to say the least.

All sunex 1/2 deep, and short. 3/8 deep, and short to.

Have had sockets for over a decade, No issues, was needing a couple replacement die grinders, so I ordered a sunex HD angle die grinder. SX5206, used it a few times, it's quiet and smooth, don't know about the 1/2 HP rating though, I also needed a straight die grinder to replace a worn out Matco and bought a blue point off the truck, no idea on the specs and actually wanted a snap on branded one but he said no complaints on these and if I did not like it he would trade me full credit for a snap on. The blue point has much more power than the sunex IMO. Looks like its made by Durofix (the company that makes ac Delcos. ).

Anyways I post this because I really wanted to like sunex's air tools but first impressions so far are not the best, yes it works but defiantly seems less power than I expected.

Angle die grinders are always a bit more gutless than their straight counterparts has been my experience.
