Anyone have a Sunex V-Groove wrench set and finding the open end tolerance to be low? I have a new 19mm fastener and it’s super loose in the Sunex. My Mitutoyo measure the opening at 19.25mm on the Sunex and 19.18mm on my old Husky wrench from the 90s. I’m looking for cheap set of metric wrench set with decent tolerance. At this point I’m going to return this set back to amazon and maybe purchase the Wright wrench 18 PCS set at $231.44. I’m open to suggestions. I have a Snap-On flank drive set that I’m giving to my father and a older husky set from 10mm – 19mm.

Part: Sunex 9917MPR Sunex 9917MPR Metric Combination Wrench Set, 25-Piece $109.98 – amazon.com

I paid 165 last year for the wrights in satin finish, better prices can be found off Amazon. I'd suspect gear wrench has better tolerances for a middle price.

I never looked at a satin finish in person before. Do you like the satin finish?

I found your question interesting so I went out and measured a few 19mm wrenches. According to my measurements the Sunnex is just about normal

S-K 19.27
Proto 19.27
TOPTUL 19.24

Now, using a caliper to do this measurement is not ideal, too easy to get it sideways, so I used a telescoping gauge and then measured the gauge. Seems to me that the Sunnex is right on normal spec. Before you buy anything else you better measure those to see if they are any different. From my experiment I doubt that they are.

Another point, you apparently live in the rust belt. I have sold to Eric Obrochta of South Main Auto a set of the XXL TOPTUL combination wrenches which he uses a lot and likes quite a bit. However, Eric has commented to me that they sometimes don't fit onto rusty nuts and bolts since rust causes steel to expand. Be careful what you wish for.

I just measured one of my Snap-on's and a Blue Point they measure at 19.20mm. I agree also that the Sunnex is right there with the rest.

Ok thanks guys and that was very helpful. I'll just keep them and give a review when I have some solid time with them.

No reason you can't use calipers if you know what you're doing. Besides its always gonna be the smallest measurement you get.

You sure about that :headscrat

:p

Yes. As long as the caliper jaws are parallel with the reference surfaces the smallest measurement is the correct one. The shortest distance between 2 parallel lines is a perpendicular line. The only way to get a longer/wronger measurement is if the jaws are not perpendicular and we introduce an angle other than 90 between our surfaces, if were to visualize this as a right triangle, we are starting to measure the hypotenuse rather than the adjacent, kind of similar to cosine error dealing with a test indicator lever angle.

The Tekton calvary should be here any minute.

I have a raised panel metric set and polished inch set in my road box, not really the best products Sunex put out, IMO. I got them pretty cheap, and for what I do with them they're ok (IE: they dont get used much).

The 1-1/4 I did use at work sometimes since it was shorter & lighter then the Williams Supercombo. It did ok, but I didnt use it that hard either.

I have the Wright set on chrome and 1 satin wrench. I do like the chrome a lot, but I think I'd like the satin better. It just feels so good on the hand. It feels sure. If you are one to drop things alot, go with the satin Wright wrenches.

I have a set of Wright wrenches from 3/8 to 1 1/4 in satin finish. I got them at a pawn shop lightly used for $40. I really like the satin finish

Thats a easy fix.In 19mm.thats the same as 3/4.Use what ever fits the best. Most of the quality wrenches out there are close, you'll probably get more varience in the fasteners depending on brand.Thats why I use what fits best. The fastener doesn't care what measurement you use,as long as the fit is good.
