Anyone interested?

Here is the link I found in another thread.
I was thinking one of each...

Screwdriver #888
#1x75
#2x100
#3x150
and

Screwdriver #665
#1x30
#2x30

All green colored.
Anybody want anything?
If I get enough interest here, Ill get the link to the company(from someone on here, I forgot who) and contact them with a request.

I'd be interested. Although we need more than 2 people to get a discount, I'm sure :)

If you read the description, the colors are determined by the type (black=phillips, green=strait). Anyway, I already have a hozan set but I'm not to impressed. I'd be in for a No. 888 2x150 & 3x150, and a No.665 1x30 and 2x30; as long as the prices are decent.

I'm interested too.

But I may get them from RJR Cool Tools. I don't have any experience with the place. But one of our fellow GF members had very good things to say about the place and owner in this thread:

Maybe we should do a group buy from RJR?

Also, RJR sells the Vessel brand which someone said was the first Japanese manufacturer to make JIS screwdrivers. It would be nice to have the "original" ones.

Yeah, someone get this going and I'm in! At RJR, they're only ~$9/screwdriver in the sets that they have advertised!

Ujmchris,

Can you please provide specifics on why you are not impressed with the Hozan JIS screwdrivers?

Would you mind taking pictures of them and posting them to this thread posting?

Thanks,

Dave

I'll snap some pictures tomorrow, but can explain now. I bought this set: http://www.ikaswebshop.com/hojisscset5d.html from that site if I remember right. I have only used the #1 and the short and long #2. I use these solely on vintage Japanese Bikes that utilize a ton of these screws.

I have 2 main complaints with them. The first being the handles. They are a hard but cheep feeling plastic, sort of 4 sided but have very rounded corners. They provide little grip to turn out suborn screws. Your hands slip fairly easy, although I have noticed that mech gloves do help a bit. I'd love to have something like the SO hard handles.

My second complaint is that the tips don't seam to be very durable. Mine show a bit of wear after only moderate use. It seams like they weren't properly heat treated, or are just made of a softer alloy. They might hold up ok for electronics or work like that, but they are more of a disposable item when used on a 40 year old bike

I'll get some pics up tomorrow so you can see.

I was thinking that too.
I looked at the vessel section of the rjrcooltools website and they have no "sets" I would like to buy.
How often are #0 and #00 screwdrivers used?

That "sets" issue concerned me too. But one poster in that old message thread mentioned that the owner of RJR tools had no problems putting together a custom set for him. That's another reason I was going to order from RJR.

I think the hard thing would be for all of us to agree on what we want in a *single* custom set. But maybe we can have more than one option for sets? a smaller set and a full set? I'm just throwing that out there.

I'm even interested in some JIS hex bits too.

Ill give this a few more days(maybe a week maybe a little longer) and then Ill send out an email.

Anyone who said they are interested....

Heres a pic of the tip of my #2 Hozan. It hasn't been used all that much by my standards.

I would be interested in a JIS bit set. It might be the solution to concerns over price and ujmchis's desire to use a JIS screwdriver with a Snap On hard handle.

Ujmchris,

Thanks for posting your experience with Hozan JIS screwdrivers. You answered my question about the durability of their screwdrivers.

What would be the point of the blades, a blade is a blade isn't it, no JIS type?

Nope, JIS only applies to Phillips as far as I know, but that company is out of Asia and I assume they are just selling their screwdriver line on that page, the Phillips, (which happen to be JIS) and the straits, which I presume are the same as ours. PB Swiss does make some differently designed strait blades, the sides are parallel instead of tapered like most drivers.
