I like that era of pumps too. One thing I don't understand is why almost all the restored pumps have the actual pump mechanisms removed and they are described as just display pieces. Even if I didn't want to use it as a pump, I'd still want all the internal pump parts intact. Makes about as much sense to me as having an old car that doesn't get driven so you remove and discard the engine?

A friend of mine has a new old stock Sunoco pump with the selector switch on it. I have no idea where he found it but it's pretty cool.

I had an old Amoco pump, and the pump mechanism inside is so heavy, that I took it out. I ended up selling the pump before I finished it.

My buddy's Dad owned a Sunoco station, so he always wanted the Select Grade Blend Pump. He found one from a collector a few years ago. While not "restored" it was in near mint condition. He saved a ton, be not buying the pumping "guts" !

Looks great in his garage !

What I've been told is that most people remove the guts because you can never get the gasoline smell out - which is a problem if it is going to be displayed inside.

Pretty cool but not old enough to really be valuable collecter pumps. I am currently looking for a 40's, 50's pump to restore.

Your mileage may vary, but actually I have found that the Sunoco Wayne 511 "blender" pump is VERY collectible. Especially if it still has the badging and roller wheels for blends up to the 260 grade. The muscle car guys love this particular pump because it's what we all used to fill our hotrods with Suncoco 260 gasoline "back in the day". Many of the 511's were converted to "single source" use in the early 70's with the oil embargo and are missing the blend parts. FWIW, I've been collecting pumps for nearly 40 years and my collection ranges from a 1910 Milwaulkee Tank Works "gallon measure" pre-visible, various visibles, clockfaces, National A-38, M&S 80, etc up to a late 60's Southwest Gulf "stainless" pump. My Wayne 511 is still one of my favorites!
