Hello,

I found this workbench on the local craigslist here in NOLA. I don't know if I'll be able to get it into my space yet. Never the less I wanted to show it here so you guys can appreciate its awesomeness.

And if anyone has any ideas about its origins I'm interested.

The dimensions are 66"w, 33"D, 39"H The holes just below the top go all the way through.

The top is 1 1/4" oak.

Regards,
Sten

It's almost an antique. Are their any plans to restore? If so I would love to see those pictures when you have completed. Congrats on the find.

I wonder if it's something that was used at a newspaper or a printer's shop - all those flat drawers look like something they would have stored type in.

I haven't bought it yet as I'm trying to work out how and if I could get it back to and into my house. I don't have a garage, and have to cross about 70' of unpaved driveway and then get it up about 8 inches into my shed which has a 34" door. I may have to cut-out and hinge part of the wall of the shed.

My one hope is that it rolls quite well on its casters.

Yes for swedevil it is the one in Metairie.

I don't have 'dibs' on it and I'm sure there are people in the area with a more reasonable way to get it into and out of their property so if you figure it out first, then more power too you, as long as it's a good home.

Someone apparently tried to low-ball the sellers saying "I can get a stainless box at Lowes for $200".

I'd guess that it is a tool chest and not a printer's chest. I think there used to be a large drawer on the lower right that is missing. There is a factory integrated drill bit holder that is in one drawer made of red painted wood milled and riveted into the drawer in this shape: /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ Also it doesn't seem to have any ink. I think it's just made in a day when most every tool was a hand tool.

All of the other drawers are locked and unlocked by the upper left drawer.

I was wondering the same thing. :headscrat

I guess even the old garage guys had to hide rainy day money from their wives too. :spit:

Everyone knows that's the secret compartment where you put the tools you don't want your wife to know you bought!

Drooling as I type! Looks like a good deal.

On moving it.I suggest you go to Harbor Freight and get one or two of their moving dollies to roll it on.
