I was at a guys place buying my new lathe. After talking the guy down $200 on the price the guy knows I have extra money in my pocket and took advantage of my tool addiction. He had bought at auction 2 lathes a mill and a big grinder. He pulls the grinder out and offers it to me for $100. Of course I don't need it but can't pass on a good deal. Its a big 10" Baldor on a heavy duty stand. The stands top and bottom plates are made from 1" plate. A friend who has a one man machine shop is probably going to buy it from because I really don't have the space for another grinder. I have a nice Emerson 6" block grinder that does everything I need.

Doug,

1 or 3 phase?

How much are you going to hold-up your friend for? Because it would only take a little motivation for me to drive up north of the border for a 10" Baldor...

Sweet deal. I just bought an 8" at an estate sale - like new, for the same price. It is the smoothest running grinder I own and I love having it. Baldor makes some very good machines, at VERY high prices. Retail, my 8" with stand and lighted guards would be more than $2.5k, delivered.

Here's an honest question, Does Baldor make the entire unit, or just the motor? I work for Xylem, we make Goulds pumps, and use many Baldor motors on our pumps. SO I was wondering if Baldor makes just the motor, or if they make the entire unit.

I am pretty sure they make the entire unit, minus the wheels and hardware of course.

Some people confuse Kalamazoo and other manufactures of being Baldor because the units have Baldor motors.

From what I understand, Baldor does make Grinders, Buffers and a few belt sanders.

YOU ****!!!

Nice score though. I have a 7" 1/2hp baldor grinder like that. It was free and I couldn't believe it was left behind a shop where the tenants were evicted. They took all of the other decent stuff. I figured it was broken, but it was just 3 phase. Luckily I took it and found out about VFD units. A $700 grinder cost me less than $150 after the VFD.

I have my eye on an old Milwaukee 8" 3/4 hp that looks like the baldor. I don't even know if it is an item they are selling, but I was told some or all of the stuff in the shop may be for sale. They have 3 old USA vices as well, and a big mig welder. I don't have much room for the stuff, but I will make room. Yes, I am a tool *****.

Quality/commercial grade tools are really nice to use after using the small stuff. My free 5hp 60 gallon compressor finally blew up, but now I may just buy a new unit that is a true 5hp rather than the 3 that this one really was. Even at 3hp, it beat my oil free Cman 60 gallon or my 4.5 gallon oil free PC suitcase style.
