Hello everyone,

Obviously new here. Let me start by saying you guys are crazy... and I'm jealous! Some outstanding builds here... well done to all.

Getting to the point. I am in the process of building a "shop". I already have a two car garage attached to the house, so I started out with the basic idea of buying a shed that was 12 x 20 and just using that. That expanded to a shed 12 x 32, which went to 14 x 32. That turned into a real garage that was 20 x 20. Which has recently come down to the maximum that my wife will allow me to have before she says it's too big, 24 x 24.... for now.

Anyway, my question for today should be simple. This will basically be used as a one car garage with the other half as the shop, storage for the motorcycle, snowmobiles, work area... etc. Since this is a two car garage, I have the choice between one big door and two 9 x 8's. This will sit at the back of my property, so will probably only have one car width drive leading up to it, then widen as it approaches the shop. So based on what I will be using the garage for... and possible future uses... which should I choose? One big or two smaller? BTW, my two car on the house is a single big door.

Let me see if I can.... get some... sketchup pics........... yes, I think I can. See attached with my single big door idea. Thanks for the suggestions... and feel free to make recommendations on other things as well... like how do I put stairs in to get to the loft. Your expertise is needed.

One big door probably best, but if you live in a real cold clime you're opening an entire wall vs. one half to get a car out. Still, I have one big door!

I like two small doors. It's better to only open half to get something in or out if the weather is bad.

One big door. You might one day decide to build an airplane.

LOL... probably not. But still, there is a good point in that. I am thinking big door. I just remembered a friend of mine having his sides of his garage wiped out by a kid and his first car. Probably should make the hole as big as possible!

Thanks for the input. I'm sure I will be back on here with a LOT more questions.

One big door. That post in the middle of two doors becomes a real PITA real fast.Especially if you need to back a trailer in thats just as wide as the door.

I had two when I bought my house and quickly changed it to one big one.

I went from a big door and a small door on my old 3-car to two big doors on my current 4 car, and the difference is night and day.

Opening a whole wall on sunny days will make it worthwhile in itself, yet alone the ease of parking something in there.
