Might want to start with a good aftercooler to knock down most of the water before the tank. Then just a good desiccant dryer at the point of use. Also a Motorguard M26 works well for plasma cutting or M60 for painting

Im late to the party but am surprised that no one suggested building a compressor closet. A comprossor closet dramatically drops the db levels as you control how much insulation is used. Essentially you just build a small "sound proof" closet where the compressor fits into, ensuring it has an appropriate air supply.

I have the 10hp Emax with silencer. I bought it bundled with their refrigerated dryer.

This is in my second building. I have the filtration and treatment loop shown below in both buildings.

I’m almost done with the piping. Air comes out of the compressor and into the main header pressure regulator (not in the photo). There’s a bypass for when the filtration isn’t needed. Most of the time the filtration will be in service and the bypass closed.

I have a Sharpe three stage setup. First two stages are filters, then air goes through the refrigerated dryer, and finally the desiccant before heading out to the shop.

When I bought the Emax, I didn’t notice they offer it with a full blown aftercooler. They don’t offer that with the dryer as a package. I’ll add a belt guard aftercooler between the pump outlet and tank inlet it fit turns out I need it. I’m in a dry climate, so time will tell.

I have Motorguard filters at the service drops for the plasma, powder coat gun, laser, etc.

This has worked well for me for several years in the other shop. Looking forward to the same in this second building.

That was my approach. It got it out of the shop which was nice. I built a larger shed for garden tools and the like and built a "trap door" acoustically insulated compartment for the compressor. It was an exact replica of my other shed so they matched.

You can function without a dryer but your consumables will get chewed up pretty quick you may find. If you have to do it in stages there is an affordable option where you can use an auto type transmission cooler on the air coming out of the compressor that cools the air significantly before it goes back into the tank. You just need some piping and adapters, compression style, in addition to the cooler. Alternatively the next budget option is the air dryer that Harbor Freight sells and it does work properly but has a limit up to around 19 CFM. Not an issue if you are below that cap.

What did you use for insulation?

If anyone else has suggestions for dryer setups id like to check those out as well. Just need a basic setup to not blow through my consumables so quickly

Are you looking specifically for a refrigerated dryer or other types of solutions?
