I think that is a unfinished wrench you have got your hands on! 3 things are missing: 1. drill the box end with that specialdrill the factory uses to get the 12pt or 6pt! 2. polish! 3. Chrome it!

Some great replies here. I think it's for dipping in soap and blowing bubbles during those slow times at the shop-- 6 or 12 pt ends are **** for that.

Nice find! I have been looking for one of those. They work great around the outside of socket head cap screws if you accidentally strip out the inside with a hex wrench. If you don't believe me just get out your microscope and you will see that your wrench is not truly a smooth circle, but a 1000pt box end wrench. Why else would they texture the outside of a socket head cap screw except to engage the teeth of the 1000pt box wrench?

You could tell new guys you come across that it's a screwdriver magnetizer-demagnetizer. I guarantee you there are many people who would push a screwdriver through the box end and test it for magnetism at least once before realizing they've been had.

If it was me though, I would tell people that it is a specialty wrench for torquing down spark plug boots. It would be funny to see someone slip that on the plug boot, put the boot on the spark plug, and use the wrench to "torque it down" before their mind begins to spin a mile a minute as they try to figure out how to now get the wrench off the plug wire without looking stupid.

Those are pretty much one way. I mean you remove the nut to remove the bolt, you can technically get a pair of pliers on the "set square" at the bottom of the head when you have it lose if you need to but it's there so you can get the nut off.

This is just mis-cast. Could use it on a rounded bolt if it's oversized for the wrench by hammering it on but...who nobody would make something like that because it'd be hit or miss for turning the bolt.

They don't drill it, they punch it, aka Broaching.
