So I have my furnace trunk line installed in the attic of my shop. The trunk runs to a wall in a vaulted ceiling section that I have my car hoist in. From the floor of the attic to the bottom of the ceiling in the vaulted area is very limited in space. I have planned on 2- 8 inch round takeoffs for the wall. Now I have to decide on how I want to have this open to the area. I could simply poke an 8" round duct through. But that is not a very good look. And would blow the hot air across the ceiling rather than push it down where I need it. So I am thinking of a rectangular diffuser. That would give me some control of airflow direction down. A 4x12 is readily available, but seems too small and restrictive. I can order a 4x14 boot. Or I can squeeze in a 6x12, but will have to locate a 6x12 boot. Must be available.
I want the best performance I can get out of this of course. I can't find any information on diffuser air flow. I figured the cubic inch of 8" round is 50.26 Square inch. So a 4x12 is pretty close. But the diffuser has to reduce by a lot (guess)
This isn't a showroom, just my shop but I still want it to look OK and mostly work.
