And you accuse me of posting spam ... :rolleyes2

Don't you ever sleep?

Actually, that's a pretty good list, but one must still check the packaging for a country of origin. I have been seeing more and more imported Channellock stuff. Klein sources from outside the US as well.

I don't like the fact that Klein imports anything at all, but I say as long as they continue to make their core hand tools in the USA I can live with it.

good point about the core stuff being American made.

Like I said Estwing now imports a few hammers but they are not the classic Estwing hammers we are used too with the blue or leather handles. You can spot them quick. Their core stuff is still made right here

If Klein ever goes the Taiwan-China route, I'll be depressed. :(

Well get ready to be depressed:

Klein

And the back side of the blade is this little notification:

Klein

Sorry Elroy had to be the one to break the news

All those knives that take utility knife blades seem to be China made. Most look exactly the same except for the color scheme.

The main reason Elroy purchased the Klein was because it locks in both the open and closed position. Locking in the closed position ensures it won't open in your pocket and go after the family jewels. Elroy was a little pissed to see the China stamp on the back side because in the package all you can see is the Klein USA stamp on the front. Tricky bastards. Deceptive advertising at its best.

That really pisses me off .... says Kliein USA to let you think you are buying a USA made product and then say China on it ....

I predict that the thread will be short....

This should be fairly easy.

Kershaw--some of their line is made in Oregon.

Benchmade- some of their line is made in Oregon.

Case-- I think everything comes out of PA

Buck-- Only some of their knives are made in Idaho--many from Asia now.

Queen/Schatt&Morgan--PA--Titusvile--also sister company to Ontario which does a lot of fixed blades and I believe has a military contract.

Bear and Sons-- Alabama?--

Canal Street Cutlery-- owned by previous Schrade president--NY

Great Eastern, Tidioute, Northfield---owned by same group---PA

Spyderco-- Some are from Colorado--others from Asia

Two huge companies close their doors in the last few years. Schrade and Camillus. Schrade was auctioned off and moved to China. Camillus was family owned and closed down and sold everything off, I believe.

Out of the previous list you are not going to find hardly any $15-$20 knives anymore, not U.S. ones. Most of the U.S. stuff caters to higher end knife buyers in the $40-over $100 range.

I may have missed one or two but I think that's about all of them. The biggest thing keeping most of them in business is the collector market.
Forgot Leatherman--make utility tools but are now making some knives also. Also SOG--they make a handful in the U.S.

The last time I checked, Gerber knives were made in Oregon, USA.

I have a Gerber Gator and if there's such a thing as an ergonomic knife, that's it; very comfy to hold.

Gerber may have a couple they still produce here but the vast majority are Asian. Fiskars scissors bought them out and they have went downhill ever since.

Ever since Fiskars bought them they've moved production all over to China. I've yet to find a Made in USA Gerber anywhere since they were bought out. At least I still have my old made in USA one.

I had no idea that Gerber had moved production overseas. Thier building was right off the freeway in Oregon so I would see it all the time.

Does anyone know about Leatherman? All of thier Leatermans used to have "Portland, OR stamped into it. On the newest one I bought, there is no stamp of origin. I did not keep the packaging to check.

About a year ago I bought a Gerber Mini Paraframe. I wrongly assumed it was made in the US. No country of origin was stamped on the blade so I checked the packaging the next time I was at the store and sure enough it was made in China. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a great little knife, especially for the price. I use it all the time and the blade is still tight and sharp.

I also have a 2006 Case trapper, very nice knife.
