I'm sure just about everyone on here could finish this sentence! You know, when your over helping a friend work on that rig-be it a car/truck/tractor...what have you, and you just need that special tool that you know is just sitting in your box, calling to you... SCREAMING even.

Sometimes it would just be easier if they could trailer their rig over here, so I could use my tools...it would be much easier, and I wouldn't have to be laying in the mudd.

What's your story guys??? What tool did you need, that was sitting in your box at home?

Mine is just about everything that is in there!

Take Care All!

Putting a starter in my friends honda, needed a 3/8 drive universal joint. Ended up bringing the car to my house to fix it.

Have to work on a friends block heater, turns out he drove off, and left it plugged in, so I need to re-solder the connections on (hope I get it right!).

I'll need a tester to make sure I don't hook it up direct and burn it up, I need to go through the thermister so it will have a stat so....tester needed! AND... solder, flux (I don't have flux core solder), etc. etc.
That's not to mention if anything else goes wrong!

Ac or dc block heater? Buy rosin core solder.. Don't do what ever you were going to. It sounds like you're a bit new to soldering ad something that can burn a house or truck down isn't a good learning project.

oH boy... Every tool and piece od equipment in my shop was purchased because I have a need for it.... I do allot of work on semi trucks.. I drag allot of tools back and forth, and although working at the owner's location often seems like the BEST approach,,, dragging a full shopload of equipment over to his shop is NOT.... A one ton service truck can get overloaded real fast, and I would rather use a 48 passenger school bus and keep everything warm inside... At least you could have a drill press, hydroulic press, parts washer, etc... My shop is arranged and equipped for doing my work..... It is a flat out handicap to work in other people's shops when they are not set up for the job.. That school bus and the added expense would get old real quick.... And I like working on my heated, clean, level floor..And that won't fit in the school bus...

Sure wish I could have brought......that blasted truck over to my shop where it belongs!!!

You guys are so 'Spot-On'....I've had to 'go-there' for years, helping folks out. Like said above, I have all 'My' tools for a reason, they are what I need (not that I can't use a Few more!), and what it takes to get the job done!

Simple answer? I can't.....

I live in the middle of 'no-where', and He lives DEEPER in the middle of no-where. There is just no way to get rosin core solder today, and I have to head up there in a couple of hours. Don't have any 'electronic' friends either...

Like you've said, I've soldered ton's of big stuff (6" copper pipe for example), but not a lot of experience soldering small stuff. I HAVE soldered some automotive connections that have broken with a piece of #12 wire that I tinned, and dipped in flux....I'm fairly good and 'gettin it done', when it's needed and your in the middle of no-where! :shocking:

But I do have a soldering iron, several different kinds of flux, and a few different kinds of solder, although I prefer lead-free that contains a bit of silver (lower melting point), Not referring to "Silver-solder" that melts around 1200*F.

A ball pien hammer. Most people say "Well I have tools." but when I show up to give them a hand, their tools consist of a rusty, chinese, sae only, socket set w half the sockets missing. The ratchet works fantastic in one direction only. By the time I say do you have a hammer and chisel, I am fully aware that I will be handed a claw hammer and flathead screwdriver.
