Surface-mount EMT question as I prepare for rough inspection

I'm about to start getting ready for the electrical rough inspection by running EMT to minimal locations - a couple switches, a couple outlet circuits including one for a garage door opener, and a couple lights including an exterior.

I'm not finishing the interior of the shop at this stage. It's not part of the submitted plans. However, the walls have been built with that in mind. I will have surface mounted EMT even after the wall covering is up.

Would it be OK to screw small pieces of OSB to the studs under the boxes and 1-hole straps to ensure that the EMT will be correctly spaced for the eventual wall/ceiling covering, or am I being ****?

Ya no problem. As long as its securely mounted you’re fine.

If it's a rough inspection you can skip anything on the surface.
Rough inspections are only for the wiring that will be covered when you're finished.
Any surface mounted items can be inspected at the final

Interesting. I'll call the permit office on Monday and verify that they expect the same, but that will make things a little easier.

That said, conduit bending is a skill. I might be passable at it by the time I am done. Pretty pitiful at the moment, though - and slow.

I just recently did all the conduit and wiring in my pole barn. I put in 6 switches, interior and exterior lights, and 20+ outlets including 2-240V outlets for my welders. I only had to have a final inspection, because none of my wiring or conduit is going behind walls. Its all surface mounted. Passed inspection with no problems. The internet is your friend for this. Also, if you have a smart phone, there are a few different conduit bending apps and box fill calculators that will help you out. I used the conduit bend app a lot to help figure out where I needed to make my marks and bend. If you are able to, I'd download one of them. It was free and saved my a lot of time and $$$ only bending stuff one time. Don't be afraid to put in pull elbows either. I'm not an electrician, nor had I ever done that much wiring before. But it was all pretty straight forward.
