surface mount T8s?

I have the corded on/off switch dual T8 Utillitech 32w from Lowe's. It came with a chain to hang it from but was screwed into the ceiling. The manual made no mention of heat issues from direct mounting, but I'm up to about page 30 on this lighting forum and it may not be a good idea.

You could use some blocks as spacers, a couple of pieces of 1 x 3 or 4 between the lamp and the ceiling.

They use the same ballasts at the surface mount kitchen lights, so it should not be an issue. If it bothers you, cut some short pieces of 1x2 and use those as spacers.

I surface mount T8's all the time, I'm going to do some more tomorrow.

I have 20 of them surface mounted, no problem at all......
