Lots of questions lately as I'm wiring up the garage. About to wire up the electrical box for the outside motion detection lights. Power will come from inside the barn, not conduit on the outside.

Can surface mount the box on the metal ribbed panel, or can cut a 4" hole and inset the box. Surface mount a bit easier, but aesethetics not so good. But, the, the lights will be 12' up on the side of the garage over the door. I can inset the box, but that will require a 4" whole and a bit more waterproofing care.

Thoughts?

Is the extra work for the inset box worth the aesthetics vs surface mount to you? Ultimately that's what it comes down to.

Which one may provide for a more durable, waterproof mount on ribbed metal siding?
