OldeTime....I was reading through your thread and saw your transfer screws. Those were made just a couple of miles from me. The factory was a large Quonset hut. They just sold out last year to some company in Chicago. So Heimann is no more. I'll have to ask my buddy who they sold out to because he is a brother to the one that owned and ran the place.

As someone that was a former chemist, I can tell you those pyrex bottles are quite spendy. Truly a great find!

I'm curious to know what was stored in them prior to you acquiring them. In most cases clear dish soap will knock most common chemicals in old pyrex bottles save aggressive chemicals that may impregnate the glass.

I'm not a chemist, but work in a metallurgical lab. There are very few chemicals that will etch/impregnate pyrex glass. Lab hygiene procedures are simply "rinse and swish 3 times with water" before putting on a rack to dry - and this with some of the most dangerous acids you can imagine.

I wouldn't worry about used Pyrex - unless they were used for biological substances.

Brian

Kevin.....I have Heimann Transfer Screws. I think theses are from a different company or did the name change or get sold? The cards are signed "Nielson Transfer Screws Mfd. by John L. Alexander Inc". I looked on the net and so far haven't found anything that relates the 2 companies

As luck would have it this weekend A gentleman decided to put almost his entire garage full of old tools up for sale. Even getting to the sale late in the morning I found all these great finds.....amongst these was a set of Bushing removers and a Vintage Survey Pocket Scope (most likely a Leitz)...........

Wow. Awesome score. That starrett inside mic is a great score itself. What did this set you back?

Hey, OldTime, great finds! Thanks for posting - we love pictures. In case you don't know, there's also an annual Garage Sale Finds thread on General Tools forum where we post our tool finds, new and old. It is one of the most highly trafficked threads on GJ. Feel free to post your finds there!

Yesterday I happen to be passing by someone clearing out their storage unit of misc tools.....here's what I found and took home: A Milwaukee Portable Metal Cutting Bandsaw in its original metal storage box with 2 extra saw blades and a Delta 12" disc sander . Both in fine running condition and both for $40 ea!

Ouch! I want to say that probably hurt your wallet, but - knowing you - it's probably another "You ****" acquisition. :lol_hitti

More pics of what I was able to find among the mass of stuff there was in this long deceased machinists' work shed in back of the house. The place had things thrown everywhere...took me hours to look thru it.

Loved these sand molds this guy made to produce whatever machines he was making.....mostly hydraulic related machines. These will make some nice wall displays. I gave one each to 2 of my buddies.

This very old machinists wood tool chest I found deteriorating in a dark corner of the shop.....I asked the seller what he wanted for it and told him I intended to restore it to new condition. He just gave it to me mainly because he wanted it to go to a good home. Don't know who made it. No name on it and possibly a Gerstner. This will be another project in the future.
