Swap my MAC Tech 1000 for a vidmar?

I came across a Vidmar 10 drawer 60" wide, 59" tall cabinet. Asking price is $ 2000, which is a little stiff. I know they sell for big money on EBay, but I wouldn't pay that much. I'm just a cheap *******.I offered up my Tech 1000 for trade, they are interested, but still wants a chunk of cash.

It has the smaller height drawer configuration, just about perfect for mechanic hand tools. It's located a good clip away, so I can't just go look at.

Saying this at a risk, what do you all think of the asking price and the potential trade?

I have some other things that I might offer up on trade to sweeten, but I'm not going to try and match the $ 2000.
Cash is out as I have too many property repairs to do this year.

I have three other 59" cabinets and this would fit in nicely to my scheme.

Here's my MAC box.
Thanks in advance.

He's asking 200 bucks a drawer which is double the going rate.

Mint vidmar or lista drawers never go for above $750, even for the big dog version whenever I'm at industrial auctions. Which is often. Maybe 5-750 is market for that cabinet in my experience. Plus the ~20% buyers premium but still under a grand.

I'd keep your Tech1000...that's a good box. I dunno about Vidmar, but your Tech1000 is serviceable, MAC Still has parts & service for it. On a lista your SOL.

Well, I think that is pretty high, even though it is the double wide version. The market for industrial cabinets like that is much smaller than the market for rolling tool boxes. If it was a straight across trade sure, but the additional cash (depending on how much) makes it a bit sour.

Hey, can you sincerely let me know about these auctions when the cabinets come up? I have a 60" wide Lista as my main box that I paid about $700 for. I never see them that cheaply on Craig's...I got lucky. The drawers on mine are actually too tall. I'd love a 60" wide with a bunch of shorter drawers.

I'd consider a straight trade, but that's it. Vidmar and Lista are the best, no doubt about it but me thinks the guys a bit greedy and he's not going to have any luck selling it on the open market for that much. Hell I recently bought a sliding 4 shelve 60" wide 60" tall cabinet in great shape for 300 and it's a monster. Mind you, that's not the norm I just got lucky as the guy didn't know the second hand market value. I have two of the 28" wide 7 drawer cabinets in my machine area. One was purchased new and it was only $600.

Your best bet is to go to bidspotter.com and search auctions as far as you are wiling to drive. Let me know if you have questions about how it works in a PM as I've been to a lot of them and can help assist.

Before half of you even replied I received a email of the seller backing out because I wouldn't put cash on top of the trade.

Thanks for the replys, I wanted to check my thoughts on the value. I sometimes get fixated on something like this and need to set back.

The $ 2000 was always too high to me. I was willing for a even swap. The gain on space would of been quite a bit over the Tech box and the MAC top box, 13,750 sq. inches compared to 8,080 sq. inches. The drawer config was next to ideal for me.

Oh well, I didn't set out that morning to buy a box, just took a shot.

I appreciate the discussion on the going values of these.
I've been hooked ever since I bought the first Lista for $25 at the Air Force base auction in the 80s.

Did yours come with the casters installed? Or did you add them?

One of my Vidmar cabinets has JUNK casters that I hate & I want to upgrade them. The other Vidmar & Lista cabinets came with really heavy duty casters, but they dont look like the ones on your cabinet.

Bull,
I'm with you on the shallower drawers, too much air space with all 6" or so drawers. The size cabinet you have makes a nice bottom box for sure.

Mine came without casters. I bought them (and the waffle plates they mount to) from Motorhead Extraordinaire on here.

Yeah, if all of the drawers were the height of that top one, with maybe one a bit taller for standing sockets up and one more deeper for cased tools and whatnot, it would be ideal.

@woodstockva Sorry to hear that. We do have replacement casters available that are definitely heavy duty. Our support team can definitely help if you contact them at 800-523-9462 or here http://www.stanleyvidmar.com/contact-customer-support.
