Our town has a swap shop at the recycling center. Folks can drop off unwanted items and take stuff they find for free. It's very popular. I was on my bi-weekly garbage run to the recycling center this past Saturday and I spotted 2 items sitting on the ground outside the swap shop. After unloading the garbage I swung back around and scored the following:

They are both in pretty good shape, however neither had a motor with it. Does anyone have a good source for motors for these items?

I generally look in CL for items just like these for $10-$30 that have motors on them....just for the motors. Problem is, I'm starting to pile up old stuff like this that's to cool to scrap and have no motors and I don't want.. Probably how those pieces ended up where they are.

That bandsaw looks like something out of the 30's designed for the future. It makes me think back to watching "The Phantom Empire".

I have never read the reviews, but would HF motor work just to make them operational? Not restoration but at least you could get some use out of it.

They were often sold without motors. There is a lot of good info on OWWM (Old WoodWorkingMachines) and a fair number of restorations of older C-man tools here on GJ. Start a thread with Craftsman restore in the title, and you are bound to get lots of good advice. I'm sure some members here have spares laying around.

The are beautiful machines, and well built. Definitely worth the time to get running.

Good score!

I have had good luck with the HF motors. If you are a little creative you could make the motor interchangeable between the two.
Rairly would you use one right after the other

I was thinking the same thing. I would rarely use the lathe compared to the band saw.

Go by an appliance recycler, I bet you could get an elec motor for cheap. It may not have the outer case smoothe steel, but washers and dryers have elec motors, some with V-belts maybe? If not just swap to a v-belt pulley.
