a few months ago, i bought a 5pc metric china made flare nut set for $39.99 at sears in a pinch one night. i was not very satisfied with them at all really, they fit fairly well, but the overall quality was not there. the broaching was fugly, and not uniform.

i decided last week to take them back with the reciept, and had no issues in returning them. i used the sears online kiosk thing in the store, and ordered the 9pc RP set of metric and standard for something like $34.99, plus free shipping to my home.

i have to say, i am totally satisfied with these USA RP flare nut wrenches, they are uniform, broached well, and have a great fastener fit also. comparing them to a SAE MasterForce set i have which is USA Allen rebrand, and Danaher made also, the RPs are much nicer, more refined, better broaching, all the way around. i found that surprising, as i thought they were essentially the same wrench, just different brand. not the case at all.

i was skeptical about them, but at $35 bucks, they seem to be a killer deal. 4 more wrenches, USA made, good fit, and saved 5 bucks....

I did the same thing aswell and I dont understand why the got rid of the RP style instead of that ****** polished set. Yeah the polished finish might catch your eye a little more but they dont preform at all. Im not sure in the guys in the office know how to even use the tools they make to realize they are getting rid of the last bit of quality tools they have.

I have the 9 pc RP set as well. I have used them on my 17 year old car that spent half its time in the NE. No issues. I've never used a Snap-On flare nut but at this point have no reason to buy one as the RP's have served me well. I used a caliper on the open ends and they were all very tight unlike the US polished wrenches I bought afterward (and returned).

Sears discontinued the 10 pc set that included the 16x18 but you can buy an Allen branded USA one for <$7 including shipping. First one Cripe sent had flaking chrome but they sent another one out after I emailed in pics. It's fine.

The steel the RP wrenches are made out of seems to be really good, I've never had an issue with any of my RP wrenches. They are certainly a true value brand wrench that performs well and is US made to boot. Buy 'em while you can IMO.

i agree. i have never had one problem with any RP wrench performance wise. cant say the same for other brands, or polished CM wrenches...

snap on flares are damn good tho, i have used them many times, just never owned them myself.

also, there are multiple EBAY sellers that sell single RP flare nuts wrenches, and single RP combos, for pretty damn good prices shipped. last i looked they had most sizes, but they may be getting sold out now.

I found a 16mmx18mm new from someone on here and gave them $20 shipped because I couldn't stand having that missing wrench. So for a total of $55 I have a awesome USA made flare nut wrench set. I know the SEA is missing the 1/4" x whatever but I don't think I've ever used that size anyway

I take it that the newer chinese full polished sets aren't on par with the older sk made ones?

i have heard mostly good about the SK made pros, with a bad mention here and there. but i have never heard a single person talk highly of the china made polished version.

they are the same wrench that Northern, ACE, and other generic tool vendors sell. same exact wrench, but they sell them dirt cheap, and sears sells them at a premium. they are what HF should sell honestly, but HF sells even worse.
