Swapping out the Quincy

I've had this Quincy for almost 20 years. It's been extremely reliable for me, but I have the opportunity to swap it out for this vertical unit of roughly the same size. This will buy me a couple of feet of floor space. Seems like a lot of work for a small gain to me, but I can't help myself. Am I nuts? Should I be keeping the Quincy?

The Quincy is a better unit. I do understand the space. If I had the headroom would be tempted to put it on a pallet rack up out of the way.

I would buy a vertical tank and remount the Quincy before I traded... I believe that pump may be the typical Saylor Beall clone made offshore - possibly... who ever is making that trade would be getting a sweet deal.

Keep the Quincy...

If you are so that pressed for space, find a way to mount the Quincy up high or get a vertical receiver for it. It's the superior machine.

Edit- If you are in Cincinnati , I have a 2 stage Champion , 80 gal I would trade you for.... it’s a nice machine. I have yet to own a Quincy and the 325 is on the short list.

Pretty sure I have the same pump on that vertical unit your showing, which I believe is a clone of the SB called a....well shoot I can't remember, but I do have the manual for it, if your ever in need. Pretty cool actually as the manuals were actually useful 30 years ago.

Don't be fooled by the clone, it's built just as good as the other big names, as you may have noticed by how heavy it is. Last time I calc'd the CFM it was at 22 or 23 CFM.

Not sure if you like welding or fabricating, but I have seen a few 5 hp industrial compressors up on homemade racks made out of 2" steel tubing. Has to be well built as the compressor does vibrate. Even with a vertical you are losing floor space .

Remove Quincy from tank, stand tank on end, mount Quincy on top?

I don't know them, but they sure look solid. Would have hard time parting with something like that.

You wont wear the other one out either if it works well now. They are both good, the Q happens to be better, it may not make any difference.

Just to update everyone...... you talked me into keeping the Quincy. The verticle compressor was sold for $700 and is now gone.
