Sweep Elbow Necessary?

I dug the trench this morning for my service entrance to the barn except for the last 3 feet at the 400 amp Main panel in the yard. I have to hand dig that part due to existing incoming and outgoing power underground lines.
Does the vertical conduit leaving the Main panel need to have a sweep elbow at the bottom? In my situation it would be easier to not have to use the sweep. A lot less hand digging. The cable will be direct burial. I'm not continuing the pvc conduit all the way to the barn. I would just stop the conduit at about 24" below grade.

Not necessary. Just need to protect the cable from damage until it is deep enough.

Make sure the cable isn't pushing against a sharp edge though.

I usually put a male adapter and bushing on the end of the conduit underground. I've also forgotten the bushing and used a coupling instead.

Your question has been answered but I'm going to add something. While the trench is open, put the ground rods in it. It's a whole bunch easier to get them below grade.

Only need a sweep if youre running conduit the entire length end to end…
