Hi this is my first thread on here so I guess I’ll start off with an intro.

My name is Matt, I just moved a few months ago into my girlfriend’s house; to make me feel more at home she give me full range over the garage, which is great since that means I can work on my project car (more on that later). I found this site while looking for info on toolboxes and have been stuck lurking around for the past few months, there is a lot of inspirational stuff on this forum and can’t wait to put some of it into play.

This will be a slow build do to that fact money and time are ******* with other projects and important things going on.

Enough talk let me post pictures here’s one back from December when I had some free time to clean it up some while she was out of town, it was really bad but its a starting point.

A couple of weeks ago we clean up and move stuff around to get it looking better, her car fits fine but we need to make room for my Car.

and here's another angle

Its not bad but I know it can be better, I want to go pick up a toolbox or at lease a cart for now, my tools are at my friends house but they are being put to good use.

That's it for now I'll try to post some of the ideas I have drew up (for warning they are really bad)

Welcome! Great seeing the before shots and documenting the progress. You will really appreciate having the reference once you have progressed and made some serious changes.

Well I haven't had time to do much to the garage, but I finally pick up a tool cart yesterday. So I stop by my friend's house to get some of my tools back so I can load up the cart I'll have to go back and reorganize the cart but this should do for now. I hope to pick up a box Later this year.

.....Well it has been a while, not much has really changed except the fact the garage has become a catch all :( work has been work and life is slowly sucking less. With that said I got something to cheer me up a new tool box. While is wasn't an easy task my GF and I got it done andI can't tell you how much we love are Honda Fit(s). You can see why down below

Hah I love it. I have a Dodge Caliber and have done the same thing and packed it full to get stuff home.

Its a great feeling, we rented a sod remover a few months back and the guys at Home Depot where in shock when we got it in the car.

Well once I get some things moved around I'll post some more pics

Haven't seen one of those Milwaukee tool chests before. I like it and it looks really well made. Thanks for posting your garage and projects.

Well it's been a while, did a little rearranging of the garage still a ways to go. So many different things I want to get for it and things I still need to get rid of.

I finally got some shop lights, but to do my work schedule and a large bit of laziness I've only been able to install one an a half ( mounted one but haven't wired it) I'm very happy with the out come this far. Well that's about it for now here one picture of the before (top) and after (bottom). Now I'm off to make dinner and mount and wire another one. If I get that done I'll post another picture.

How do you like the milwaukee tool box? I have been eyeing one.

I like it so far, really like the soft closing draws. The only thing is some stickers don't stick but that's not a real valid point lol. Other then that no complaints.

Later I may buy a bigger since I plan to add more tool and other stuff

Well I wired the second light fixture and mounted another one, but didn't wired it cause it was damn hot in the attic. Plus I have another two or three lights left to mount so I'll wire ever thing else up then.

From new to old

One 2ft and one 4ft LED shop lights

The other thing I'm planning to do is add a light switch for the lights that are over the garage door. There is a panel that I'm gonna my to drill a hole in to run the wires.

Here is the panel that I'll be using to run the light switch wires, just need some piping and a box full run the switch.

I know my updates are ages apart, and my garage is still no were near what a lot of the other great garages on this site. Non the less here’s a few small updates

I got married (to my girlfriend I moved in with at the beginning of the thread) back in August (2018) so money was ******* for our Honeymoon. Yea Did a super small and cheap wedding, so we could go to Japan for two weeks had a blast!

bf932f85225fd97a0f71789b5a973118.jpg

After we got back we had the A/C replace before it died on us (it was getting old). We also had them move the air handler into the attic. This was great because it makes the garage look bigger.

Aside from that I’ve also put up a cabinet that I had for a while that was in storage, then I made a shelf to hold my jack stands, wash buckets and some larger tool kits.

Please disregard the mess

19de65860634aad0f0b1a58638ceeac3.jpg

And a couple weeks ago I ordered up some metal peg board from wall control and finally put it up this pass Sunday.

Aside from that, I’ve bought some tools nothing really special. Just stuff to help me do work on my cars. I hope to be on here more often next plan is to fix the wall and paint the garage.

Lol, this isn’t my first rode,But I have to say she is awesome. Unlike my first wife we communicate very well and she understands that my hobbies are expensive and doesn’t get me **** for it.

This was in Tokyo government building

It helps that she like to make things to, early last year we remodeled the guess bathroom (I did demo and she put it back together). I buy all the automotive tools for me and all the woodworking/gardening tools for her.

She’s even on board with me building a new garage once we figure out a few things. (That won’t happen for a few more years though)

Garage is a little messy, so I’m cleaning it up so I can put the transmission back in the truck tomorrow I hope.

You have discussed the tool rule with her?

Each new project requires a new tool project? And you get one for each one she gets?

The second question I have is how sturdy the short 2x4 shelf is. Does is support the black cabinet on top or is it fastened to the wall?

Could it support a 3-4drawer top toolchest?

Thanks

You have discussed the tool rule with her?

-Yes a few of them
1. No touching my tools without permission
2. Put tool/s back from where you got it from
3. No touching my tools without permission
4. Can’t go to any tools store without me and Vice a versa

Each new project requires a new tool project? And you get one for each one she gets?

-Yes sometimes we get tools even if we’re not doing project can’t pass up good deals and doesn’t hurt to be prepared

The second question I have is how sturdy the short 2x4 shelf is. Does is support the black cabinet on top or is it fastened to the wall?

-seem sturdy to me, really just made it to hold my jack stand and a few other things.

-no it’s not supporting the cabinet it just clears it, nor is it attached to the wall.

I do have a 2x4 under the cabinet attached to the wall for a little more support even though I have 6 tapcons holding it up. The cabinet just hold some oil, spray paint and car cleaner supplies nothing really heavy.

Could it support a 3-4drawer top toolchest?

I think it could if it was deeper, been think about doing something like that when it’s time to build a work bench.

Thanks

Hope that helps,

Quick update almost done just need to add some braces to the bottom. Also need some more wood to add some shelves on the right side.

Thinking about painting the wood what do you guys think?

I vote for painting the wood. I painted my walls white and all the shelving white in my place. I just think it gives a finished and cohesive look.

So I having done anything for the past few years. Life has been great been busy with other hobbies and now 2 kids. But this past year we finally started to build a shop. I think I’ll start a new post with more details, progression pictures and updates that will happen over time. Until then I’ll post a where we are at right now in the build.

46x46x16 still a lot to be done, but it’s getting there
