I looked at this set up yesterday. What do you guys think? The gentleman said he had $500 in material. He used 4"x6" and said original plans called for 6"x6"s.

I was looking at this variation on FB yesterday, all 6"x6" construction. Thinking of building one in the yard.

Would have installed the "top plate" 4x6 with 4" side facing the ground.
Some concern over how the top plate is attached to the posts.

X2 how much $$ was saved by not using the plan materials? It's just a personal thing, but I like to be able to reach my fire pit directly from my chair. That looks like a lot of stopping & getting off the swing to tend the fire...

While I, too, prefer the 6" X 6" construction better, I think the single swing part is an accident waiting to happen. That aside, the concept looks really nice. I prefer to tend the fire from where I am sitting but also like the option of moving closer or further away depending.

I'd agree on the single swing too. While the double may have more weight, it's not going to have the pulling motion the single seats have when they (kids or drunk adults) start pumping their to go higher.

I would use 4x6 or 6x6 construction. I say yes to the bench seats but not the swing seats. They look dangerous for kids or stupid adults. Also the swing seats will be hard on the structure :dunno:

I have been looking at a similar set up but can't decide how far back from the pit to put the benches

Swinging into a fire doesn’t seem like such a good idea for the kids, or intoxicated adult :headscrat

Have a kid who is good at jumping out of swings help you set a distance that allows them to jump without falling in. Those will be the far, short sides for the single swings. The closer, long sides will be the bench locations. So a hexagon with alternating length sides.

Alternately, set them up so they can clear the fire.

My firepit is usually surounded by 10 or 12 people. All eating and drinking. We move a lot because the smoke tends to change direction . Those type of swings are not comfortable. Aderondike (sp.) chairs and foot stools work great.

Seems like a solution in search of a problem. :dunno:

So I'm gonna erect a small wooden Stonehenge in my yard in order to have a few swing seats set up around a firepit? :headscrat IMO it looks like ****. The gravel adds a nice touch too..
