Anyone out there have custom/home built swing out doors. Also what options are available for openers?

They are called 'Carriage Door'. Do a general search on the web and you will find a tone of stuff.....warning....stuffs looks great and is expensive.

A buddy of mine was considering making a set after he got a quote of $6000 for a carriage door for his double garage.....the hard part is finding the hardware....it's a bit different than a standard door.....

these are interior doors, but same concept. We built them to separate the cold storage part of our shop.... they are 16' tall. And they swing out like a huge safe door....

they are each 16x6' and are made out of 2x6, OSB and sheet rock.

THe hinges are 1" tube with 3/4" shaft. Three hinges per door.

we also built a latching mechanism to hold the doors shut.

Here's mine. I built them in place as one solid unit, then after all the hinges were mounted, cut them apart. It went well with no sag and they still move just like the day I cut them apart. I did have to remove the trim on the first one and increase the gap width around the perimeter. It was too tight and when the humidity picked up here in GA the gap closed up and put them in a bind. Second door went better from all that I learned on the first set. Doors are 10ft tall and each half is 56 inches wide. Hinges are from McMaster Carr and were a bargain at about 23 bucks each. Plenty heavy duty and haven't given me any trouble.
