So after taking my time to finish out the interior of my space, working through design options and getting some great advice from Rick at RAD Garage, I ordered Swisstrax.

I ordered Wednesday, they shipped Thursday and it arrived from their distribution center in North Georgia this morning via FedEx.

Tons of work yet to move things off the floor and vacuum. I hope to finish this morning and start installation later today. Who knew Swisstrax would be here at 9:00am three days after I ordered.

My son’s B5 Passat project car is a major obstacle to completion....

So excited.

Two things:

1. Love your Gulf livery color scheme. Is the floor playing into that or is it a plain color?
2. That looks like a lot of flooring. How big is this space?

It is going to be awesome when done.

I’m excited for you, you’re going to love it! I’ve had mine for about a month now and it brings me joy every day.

Thanks. My uncle owned a Gulf station when I was about 8-12 years old, back in the Stone Age when stations were full service with mechanics on staff. I frequently took the hour long ride on the Greyhound bus to their house on the weekends to work there. Had the uniform and everything. No more Gulf stations I’m aware of in Michigan, but the fondness is still there hence the livery.

Given all that’s going on visually with the back wall I did not want to overdo it with the floor. I’ll post pics when I’m done so you can check it out.

Space is about 1K square feet.

I think so too.

With our snowy weather, I’m looking forward to having the snow and associated grunge melt off and magically go beneath the floor after pulling the cars into the heated garage. Much better than the alternative.

I also just ordered Swisstrax for my garage last Wednesday. I'm jealous, mine still hasn't arrived but I'm pretty much ready to install.

Compared to Racedeck free flow, I like the thicker design of swisstrax’s rib trax.

I got pricing from both companies and the Swisstrax is nearly $900 more for my 625 ft2 garage floor. I appreciate high quality and will gladly pay extra for it when it is justified. Can someone, preferably someone that has used both brands, help me to decide if I should go with Racedeck or pay the 50% more for Swisstrax?

I went with Swisstrax because they have the Swisstrax Smooth, a far more eye-pleasing visual pattern than the Ribtrax or the Race Deck stuff. Floor jacks roll super-easily. The Swisstrax pulls apart in an exceptionally easy manner, great for vacuuming or finding lost parts.

I didn't even bother pricing Race Deck, but Swisstrax had some juicy sale, something that RD does as well. The price didn't matter a bit to me since the material and functionality were exactly what I wanted. Although cheaper is always better, whatever I paid for it was not too ouchy.

Hi Mark, I had the same concern of the ribtrax visual pattern. I was also concerned of walking on it barefoot.
Do you have any pictures of your setup you could share, any tips to consider on a order.

Thanks

Look at the Race Deck Free Flow XL, which is 18" x 18". It is thicker (3/4") than the regular Free Flow (1/2") and has flat ribs for (supposed) easier rolling of heavy objects. Race Deck gives Garage Journal members a great discount anytime and I love the look of Free Flow in pictures. I ordered my Free Flow XL this week and look forward to receiving and installing soon. In my research, I could not find any clear technical advantage of Race Deck vs Swisstrax, so for me it came down to price, appearance, and the active participation of Race Deck on this forum.

Thanks - If size matters, the RaceDeck FreeFlow XLC is the biggest and beefiest...has many patented features that makes it one of our most popular with both commercial and residential garages FreeFlow XLC
