Heads up! Swisstrax is having a sale, Barrett Jackson West Palm Beach Deal so I imagine it won’t last much longer, they also take good care of Garage Journal members. Placed my order with Danny this weekend and I WILL come back to this thread with before/after photos later.

They do a nice referral bonus so if you call ask for Danny danny@swisstrax and mention me, Daniel, invoice #50265 if you don’t mind.

I ordered 718.95 square feet (418 pieces) to covered a failed epoxy job I bought with the house. As Illinois uses heavy salt in the winter and we get plenty of snow and slush I felt that the Swisstrax Ribtrax was the best choice for me.

Since I have no pictures to offer you today, please view this short 1 minute video (not mine) of the final deciding factor that caused my wife to say yes to this purchase:)

Thanks looking for flooring options as my concrete slab sweats. And want to come up with a solution now that I’m building an addition.

Yep, my concern with doing epoxy again, tile or vct which I like as options is kinda based on water from rain and snow effecting the bond of those materials long term. My garage is what I’d call semi-conditioned; at the coldest outside temps I can only maintain about 40 in the winter without adding additional temporary heat, beyond the recommendations for some of the glues and bonders. I know some people have done it with success but I felt better going this route, also I think it looks pretty cool. For your scenario I think where you are adding some forced air heating combined with the ability for air to circulate beneath a product like swisstrax could be a great solution for you.

May I ask what the price per sq ft is on swisstrax? New to flooring and looking at some options.

Sure, I came out at $3.70 per square foot. That includes shipping and all border trim pieces.
I got the Ribtrax. vinyltrax, turftrax, smoothtrax, graphictrax, rubbertrax have different prices both higher and lower I believe. What I really like is that they all work together so you can customize easily.

Found some pictures from previous owner from when we bought the house showing more of the old epoxy I’m covering up with Swisstrax.

And I’ve decided to paint the garage before I lay my flooring down. You may notice that my base cabinets are missing on the left side in this photo, I’ve removed them so my truck fits easier (F350 Crew Cab Long Bed) I have saved them and painted them the same so if I change vehicles or sell the house they can go right back in place. Until now I’ve just shifted them over to the left hand wall but I’ve decided to set them in my basement shop until I need/want them back in the garage.

I’ll be using this as base molding after the floor is installed in place of the vinyl wall base that came with the garage. I’ve chosen a 6 inch board rather than traditional shaped or decorative base molding partly for the cleaner look and partly for the price, this material at half the price of comparable height base molding, Miratec, seems a perfect solution, it’s an exterior composite product and will do just fine in a garage that gets slush and snow melt.

Not just yet, I decided on a strategic delay. I’m adding new garage doors to the project and I have a bathroom remodel going, with the near constant rain here the garage became a temporary location for the tile work, cutting, mixing etc. I will finish up the Swisstrax this weekend. See the old doors at the end of their usefulness below.

My Floor looks exactly the same as your did. Going to cover it up as well.
Finally done with paint and cabinets and floor is the last thing I'm doing.
Very similar project, your photos just clinched it for me!
Thx!

Nice garage man, the Swisstrax gave your project a neat look.
I'm thinking about installing it on my garage and my floor epoxy have the same problem as yours but 2 times worst, i just bought it so don't know what's the problem with it.

Can you give your opinion on how the Swisstrax system will look installed in a garage that have the drain on the center and the floor have some degree of declination towards the drain.

Thanks in advance.

I don’t think you’ll have a problem at all, in regards to appearance, the pattern of the flooring really kind of disguises variation in the floor. I do have a low spot on my garage floor that is completely unnoticeable now.
In regards to performance, if the area very close to the drain hole is severely sloped, I’d have no problem with using some scrap ribtrax underneath to shim up a bit, I’d do this especially if the drain location is in the usual path that you walk in the garage so you don’t “feel” the slope anymore.

Thanks again.

Dan any chance of seeing a pic of your whole garage (drive in view). I have a 2.5 car garage and I'm not sure how I will lay things out in the front.

Is every Black Friday 25% off? I am ready to order now but I don’t mind waiting. I called Swisstrax directly and got 10% off and free shipping. Free shipping seem pretty standard. Anyone know about the 25% Swisstrax deal going to happen anytime soon?
