There are actually quite a bit different in the tiles. The extra 1/4" will not make the floor more susceptible to being pushed back. There are quite a few differences in the floor. Are you looking at a solid floor type or a Ribtrax tile?
The Swisstrax flooring is made thicker for a couple of different reasons:
1: The thicker flooring allows for more material per sq ft. This does not mean more of the potato chipping effect, in fact that isn't an issue with the RibTrax floor. Every modular floor manufactured is susceptible to expansion. That is just part of this type of flooring but can be minimized with the right floor.
2: The flooring has a 4 point injection which allows a uniform amount of material all the way across the floor.
3: The PSI rating is guaranteed across the whole tile including the edges. If you are comparing any tiles, just put them connected upside down and look at the gaps. There is a big difference between all of the manufacturers.
4: The thicker tile allows the tile to have smaller gaps in the ridges and therefore casts more of a shadow. The shadow covers the original floor more.
5: The thicker tile allows for a full channel all the way across the bottom of the tile for better drainage.
6: The Swisstrax tiles allow for an individual tile anywhere in the floor to be removed by itself. There are numerous videos available on youtube. No other manufacturer currently has a video showing a tile in the middle being removed by itself.
There are numerous other differences also. All of the floors definitely serve their purpose but just take a look at all the features of each one and make the selection that best fits your needs and budget.
