I installed a great led flood on the gable of my shop and would like to be able to control it from the house. I bought a remote switch but I can't get them to work together (only the remote will work with swit h on. When off the reciever loses power and must be re-paired with remote to turn on.)
I think I need to install a 3-way but I am missing the extra leg for the remote. I have seen "alexa" controls but hoped this would be easier. I guess I was wrong.
Any better ideas?
Thanks

I bet that remote is supposed to be wired in in series between the switch and the light and you’ll turn the light on and off with the remote.

CJ7- it is a maxlite 105w. It got installed on 480 and fried the driver so all it cost me was a $40 driver. MFL105AX7TX50B.

Thanks for the link to the caseta. I think that my remote would work in series but I still want it to be operable at the shop so that may be my best option.

There are a number of ways to remotely control a light or an outlet. It can almost be overwhelming at times. Probably the first modern method was X-10 which was later mostly replaced by Z-Wave, which is what I mostly use. You also have straight wifi, zigbee, and a bunch of others

You need to figure out how you want to turn on and off the light. Do you have an Alexa and you want to use voice controls, do you want to use an app on your cell phone, a handheld remote or what?

Most of these devices are going to require some sort of wireless 'bridge' to connect the device to the controller. One of the more popular and easier to work with bridges is the Samsung Smart things Hub which will cost you about $63

But, once you have the hub, you can start adding all kinds of different devices. Here is a $30 wall switch for example:

The thing with Z-wave is it's a 'mesh' network. The more devices (switches, outlets, etc) that you have, the better the system works because each device can relay the signal back to the hub

So again, a lot is going to depend on how much you want to spend, and is this going to be just one device or would you expand the system later

Here is a "wemo" wall switch that works with alexa and your phone

I have one bank of interior lights in my shop and another light on my house porch wired through Liftmaster 955LM’s. That way at night I can use the three buttons on my remote to open the shop roll up door, then turn on the shop interior lights for backing in and then turn on the porch lights for walking over to the house.
