Hello everyone

New guy here with a quick question. I recently purchased my first house and lucky me I was able to find one with a 24x24 garage. Not as big as I want but it is still MY garage and really probably dont need any bigger anyways.

On to my question, above the door there is a electrical outlet. It is kind of handy but a light there would be so much better and provide some safety by lighting up the yard more. I was wondering if it would be possible just to switch the outlet for a light? Obvioulsy I would have to do a few little things but overall would it be a simple switch? Oh by the way the outlet is already switch and there is another outlet right next to the door that is not switch, so no worries about adding a switch or losing an outlet.

Are you talking about what is usually used for Christmas lights in/near the eaves outside? If so it should be no problem using it for a light fixture, depending on the mounting hardware that comes with the light, you may be able to mount it directly to the box after removing the receptacle, of course.

Oddly enough no its not in the eves, it is only maybe 6 inches above the top of the door. I am thinking that the previous owners had a light there but removed it and put the outlet there and it was probably for Christmas lights to.
