How often do you find use for your 1/2" drive impact swivel sockets in the 10-19mm sizes?

Thanks

never ... don't even own a set. i've never run into a situation where an impact wobble with a shallow socket wouldn't work for me. probably different for a heavy line tech though. Hell i don't even use an impact most days.

I use the 15 and 18mm sizes once in awhile and the 24mm when working on a specific vehicle. I really don't find myself using the other sizes but, it depends on what you work on. For 1/2 drive, you can usually get by with an impact swivel and shallow impact socket. Clearance isn't as much of a concern as it is with 3/8 drive.

The only swivels I end up using in that size bracket are the 3/8" drive size that I use pretty much exclusively with the butterfly impact. Most of that reason is sometimes I need the extra joint just to be lazy enough to use the butterfly.

I use 13mm,15mm and 18mm most of the time in metric. The best impact swivel sockets are made by Matco so far,no pin to break.Matco went to a pinless design that lasts 7 times more longer which there is a patent on it.Fault point of the pin design is the pin,pin breaks and does injuries to the users hands. It almost happened to me once, pin broke while I was using it on an impact.

I have swivel impacts in 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2". I use them everyday. I do alot of suspension work so they come inhandy more than you might think. Mine are all Sunex, haven't had any issues with them for the past 4 yrs.

I haven't needed any 1/2" until I had to put new chains on a 2.2l cavilier engine. If you take the bottom and top mounts out and let the engine drop down some with a 24mm swivel you can remove the crank pulley.

Other than this haven't needed one.

Not very often in the small sizes but when I do need them they are there. 17mm, 15mm and 18mm are the most used. In most cases on the smaller sizes where I have some distance to go I use my Snap-On 1/2 to 3/8 impact loking extentions because of clearance issues. My 3/8 impact swivels get the workout. I use the 1/2 for mostly brake and suspension work.

only 3/8", both metric and SAE. it's something when you need it, you'd better have it.

what i would like to ask you is in choosing flex impacts what do you feel would be the best purchase, 6 point or 12 point allso 3/8 or 1/2. I build desert race trucks, lot's of suspension stuff. Right now i have just been using a swival adapter/extension and it has been fine, but this is a site for the tool addicted and you know what that means. I know it is a broad question, in the end i will end up with all, but what would your first swival set be. Thanx's for the help.

I have a older mac 3/8" metric set; great for under the car, suspension, ******, motor work.... if you don't have some get some! I find it helpful to use impact locking extensions with these; as they have a tendency to fly off your impact!

You probably need to start a new thread to ask this question rather steal this one. However, a Matco 8-19mm 3/8 drive 6 point is my go to set. I have one 12 point for Ford u joints but, I really like the durabilty and pinless design of the Matcos.

Thank you all for your much appreciated replies.

A guy wanted to sell me a set of Snap On Swivel Impact Sockets 10mm-19mm in 1/2" drive for 100 bucks ( date coded 83 or probably 84). One of our resident SO specialist here had advised that price wise the deal is a win-win but had voiced concern about the usefulness of the tools in that particular drive configuration ... so did I.

Our shop does general automotive works ( engines, suspensions etc... for jap cars ) and so far we have gotten along without impact swivel sockets. In as much as I would want to purchase the tools I also would not want to get something that will just sit in the box unused.

Still undecided here :(

Heck, buy 'em; see if you like and use them.... if not, sell them on ebay and most likely make a profit! Then, buy more tools! :)

100 dollars is a good deal. I have stuff I've only used once or twice. Things like that seem to pay for itself the first time you use it
