I have the Challenger Versymmetric. It can be loaded either way. I think Bendpak has the same type lift capability.

Rotary with 3 stage arms in a spo is most versatile lift ive ever used. Large crew cab dump trck fords you can lift it where you want or small tiny 2 door cars
All but the largest vehicles you can life with hanging off rear of life(asy style).
I have a spo12 and a spoa10.(both three star arm options My spo is my go to and favorite

At work I have a few spo 18's. Normal spo10's spoa 10's with both arm options
My spo 12 ra at home is still my favorite to work off of

Rotary suggested for bigger stuff (trucks) a symmetrical is the best choice. So that is what I got. I'm happy, sure it is a bit harder to get in and out of the vehicles but you don't do that constantly.

The spo10ra was one if the lifts I was looking at. Can the 3stage arms both swing back like the asymmetrical ones?

When in Not I'm use arms go foreword and back like a standard symetrical.
Arms will both go straight out from posts as furthest "inward position"
The front arms with 3 stage are allows to get so short you can rack most vehicles with front arm at the 70-90* mark and the rear 3 stage arms go so long you can extend them way out to grab rear pickup points with the care hanging way off the back....
But then when you lift trucks you can center them up and lift symmetrical safely
I can lift anything the way I want to on my spo12ta
I only lift cars, small SUVs (suburbam max) and 1/2 ton trucks on my spoa10ra. By the time you lift the suburban on truck you have front arms maxed out and you don't have any door clearance either then......
Most crew cab trucks I can pull in the spo12ta till the door just clears front side of lift post and lift them safely their

With a ½T truck on the spoa10ra, how much room do you have in front of the truck and how far from the wall are the posts?

On my lift, the posts are 10' from the front wall. With my 1/2 ton, I still have room in front of the vehicle to work on it and move around pretty well. My tool box is located to the side, so if you want to have a tool box in front, you need about 12' to the center of the post. My lift has the "Supersymetric" arms.... meaning you can use it in either configuration (3 stage front arms)....

to the concrete saw cut line there is 11' in front of each of my lifts from lift center for retro spec my lifts both have 16' behind them to door
I could have moved the asy back some, since it is my less versatile lift I try to put all my 6.4 cab off projects there since I usually don't even need to lift trucks for cab removal due to so little time spent under them to remove cab
trucks pictured 1/2 ton standard wb in rack position on spoa with plenty of room behind, the crew cab dually on the spo with decent room behind

crew cab dually with cab racked on spoa and rear tailgate against door
long wheel base f550 with decent room behind back

my spo12ta will spank any "versymetric" lift in capability and versatily handles crew cab duallys, dump trucksm 18 passanger people hauler vans down to a 2 door Honda or a prius.

Symmetrical period. I have used both for many years. Cannot back on asymmetrical, to say work on the diff. full size pick ups with any load in the bed are scary, and most trucks like a suburban need to be pulled up far enough to balance the weight the door is blocked. So what if you can open the door on a compact car.

Every tech here hates them.
