I have an old Craftsman set that came in a vinyl pouch. Maybe you can find something like that to use or make your own.
Can't find the exact set, but something like this. Maybe you can email and ask if they can send you an empty pouch. Bondhus may even have them.

They came with the cases, but I got rid of them when they split, they were kind of bulky.
In or on? In, a screwdriver rack might work. On, get a mag tool holder like this

In one of the drawers. I thought about a screwdriver holder, might have to have a look at a few options and see if anything is suitable
Why don't they just sell allen keys as straight sticks and include a tap handle to use with them? Nobody seems to have a good storage solution for these bulky things.
They do, they generally have a socket drive and you apply force with a ratchet..

Totally agree on the lack of decent storage for them. Just quietly, when I get to my pliers drawer, I have a good idea for storage that looks a whole lot like yours
It would work, but it would have to be a specialty tap handle designed to hold hex shafts. A 3 connection point tap handle would work.
OP, do you have any drawers that are deep enough to store them on their side? You could make a simple rack that holds them all in their own channel sort of like all the plier racks you see on GJ.
Yes I have drawers deep enough to stand them on end, but I have an oversupply of shallower drawers that I was trying to use first. The idea of storage on their side is one I had considered, and one that hasn't been completely dismissed.
Maybe I'm not understanding tadpole's goal, but I have mine in the same shallow-height drawer as screwdrivers, facing in opposite directions to best use space.
That is kind of how I have them at the moment, I was hoping to find the utopia of minimal space storage options for them. If I wanted to leave them like that I guess I could make a shallow tray that fits over the lip of one of deeper drawers.
Cut grooves in a piece of 3/4 pine, handles hang off the edge.
You and I think alike, although I was looking at using some HDPE I have laying around.
Thanks for all the suggestions so far, much appreciated
