BADASS!!!

Bret

Thanks Bret!

Awesome T!
Great trick with the filler. I know the 3D printing is the cool part, but I have to say the oak stands look great too -- great choice with the router profiling, that detail and the oak contrast really nice with the colorful statues!

Thanks Nick! I just love how 3d printing can be utilized with projects like this. Without it I can't imagine myself doing anything like this. There's a ton of ideas around the websites. Before my projects have been pretty much 2D 😅 I like the oak too. There's a nice contrast between warm wood and plastic shiny items. I like the funny side of these bust statues too. The bust statue represents always some boring dude like Apollo or David:ROFLMAO: I like my heroes better;)

My hat is off for people who designed these and shared for use.

I really like the hammered paint on this model. Lookin' good, T!

Thanks Zanyad! The Mandalorian is printed from pure beskar steel;)

I’v heard that Milwaukee have those routers too now. So you don’t have use those boring green machines.

-Scyyb

Welcome aboard Scyyb! I've heard rumors about those nice red ones. I just wish my budget was unlimited😅

Hey T-

Its been a bit since I visited and I'm very impressed with your craftsmanship as always, creative project after creative project! Love the wire-Bonsai and all of the 3D printed parts. Even a baby Groot!!!

Thanks Matt! Thanks for stopping by! The summer has been a great time for light duty projects. I'm going back to heavy metal when the winter comes;)

Thanks all for great support!

Nice to see an update from one of my favorite shops and great job on the super busts! :lol_hitti

Jay

Thanks Jay the man! Waiting a filament delivery to print a wonder woman. There's just not enough lady super heroes ;)

I’v been working with organising my shop lately, but i have to say it’s nothing compare with T’s palace.

Thanks for the kind words Scyyb! You have to start your own thread to show up your workshop man(y)

-Trellis update-

I'm not sure what kind of mix my wife have been giving for the vines but they are outgrowing from the trellises I build😅

All other plants are out of leafs already but these keep going strong. I'm not sure is there enough time for blooming before the snow comes. Will see. All I can say is my trellises did good. I was little worried about the weight but they are holding up great. I will take off the vines when they go bad and roll some decorative lights on those for the seasons.

I think we will test some creepers next year. I just love the autumn colors of these.

Skip a few months and a lot has been happening again! Good work on that kitchen area, I just got a 100 euro black fridge from Gigantti, will need to do something similar. The fridge and microwave are taking too much desk space which I don't have enough. Will probably put them on top of each other like you. Probably will not get as nice execution though :)

I was thinking that I need to find the dumpster where you find all that nice stuff, but when writing this I thought that it's probably those roskalava groups which I follow as well, although nothing very interesting shows up. But I like that ikea shelf idea, as usually the shelf holders come too much down. Thanks again for a great tip!

And what can I say, workshop organization and 3d printing, that's super nice! I think the 3D printing surge was helped by the fact there was a great open source community right from the beginning (weren't some of the first kickstarter projects?). So it's not hold down by expensive software licenses to big manufacturers. I've always loved 3d cad modeling, so this really would bring a usefull aspect to it. You're doing some great stuff!

BTW, do you follow a site or youtube or something for those bonsai trees? Really looking good!

Thanks for stopping by Matias! Fridge and microwave is a nice thing to have in workshop. Super nice deal on the fridge (y) I use to have rental apartments and had to buy new stuff if something was broke. One guy couldn't sleep cos the fridge was so noisy. I bought new one, exactly same model and it was as noisy as the old one. So I took the old one in my workshop and bought a pile of earplugs for the guy😅

I drink mostly tea on break so the microwave is nice to have. My fridge is for snus, milk and loctite to stay fresh. Sometimes it's full of soda but my kids sneak it empty fast.

I was thinking that I need to find the dumpster where you find all that nice stuff, but when writing this I thought that it's probably those roskalava groups which I follow as well, although nothing very interesting shows up. Well I'm not in Facebook. I bet the competition is hard on those groups. I live close to industrial area, lot of different company activity here. I know pretty much everybody and they know me as a dumpster diver😅 I have done a lot of snow work and welding around the neighborhood.
There's a renovating company in my neighbor where's all the good stuff. Small company's don't have any storage space so all the things extra goes in to dumpster:oops: It's sometimes crazy.. Of course you have to get some kind of permission to visit the dumpster. Friendly approach and a pack of coffee and biscuit goes far;) Best salvage days are when the company is moving. Sometimes they inventory pretty much everything in to dumpster..
I am some kind of opportunist, when I see something interesting I know quick were it could be re-used:D That happened with the Ikea shelving supports.

And what can I say, workshop organization and 3d printing, that's super nice! Yes I love the 3D printing stuff, brings all kind of opportunities to make stuff. Art and functional things. I wish I could learn the modeling part. I think I have the logic but don't have the time or software.

I saw a video about the bonsai trees and decided to try with regular wire, it was horrible and too stiff. I ordered few rolls of aluminum wire and way better. I have some inspirational pictures saved in Pinterest.

That trellis looks amazing, nice work

Thanks Octane Matty!

Inspired by Bret's great work I printed some storage bins. It took 24h to print four large bins 80x110x48mm in two batches. 46g of filament so the price of one bin is about 1.4€ a piece including electric and filament😅

Not sure is it worth it but I looked the Sortimo boxes and those are around 5€ a piece here but the import ones are way cheaper. Just can't find the right sizes.
The great part is that I scaled the bins to 103% to fit my drawers perfectly.

There's five different sizes and these are designed to fit the Harbor Freight storage case. So if I keep the scale same I can print some modular sets.

I have a lot of drawers almost empty or a total disaster. One drawer takes 16 large ones so it's a lot of work to do. It's a simple part so I drive my printer on 110% speed. Could do even faster, I have to test.

I'm pretty deep on this so I guess I keep printing on😅

OMG you and Bret are making me want to take the plunge so bad!

The great part is that I scaled the bins to 103% to fit my drawers perfectly.

To me that seems like the best aspect of 3d printing when it comes to shop organization. I'm sure you can save some money but there are plenty of fairly cheap drawer organizational devices out there, socket organizers, screwdriver holders, trays etc. But to be able to make them fit perfectly and customize to your specific tools... now that is totally awesome!

I have a lot of drawers almost empty or a total disaster.

I don't believe you! Every drawer I've seen in your shop is perfection! And completely full! :ROFLMAO:

Awesome work T, have a great weekend

Great updates as usual mate! I really like those creeper vines, very pretty!

What is that Lego kit you are building? A Cadillac? is it a kit or custom made parts?

Wow T! Great work. Your drawers put my to shame. I am going to print some more bins to catch up. I stopped to make the wife a really cool project. Its 3 parts and about 3 days worth of printing. The first part was a 28 hour print. I have to say that was a little nerve racking as it got to the end. The first attempt at the part the filament broke after I went to bed. I have since bought a filament dryer I need to mount and printable guide that should elimate that stress.

Later I need to print some bins....

I guess that means just one thing Nick ;)

I love the versatility of printing. I keep running on things I didn't even know I need every time I open the Thingiverse or Pinterest😅

Thanks Rudi! It's a Ghostbusters Cadillac set. One of my favorite movies when I was a kid. Had to get it when I saw it😅

T,

Nice to see you back after your break from GJ. Nice job printing the bins. Your days must be 48 hours long up there in the great white north.....just to get that many done....:ROFLMAO:

Thanks Mark! The printer is running hot 48/7😅

Thanks Bret! Can't wait to see what you are creating this time!

I believe large prints can be hard to do. I don't have any experience from full capacity ones. I've been looking for a full size mask for shopmanager for Halloween party.

I just experimented my first filament change in middle of print. That was exiting but went okay. Just didn't touch any axis in the process and all went good.

I watched a video how to save a print if it fails after many hours of print. I believe it was a software called Slicer. You can stop the print when it fails, find the layer where you were going and start the part from next layer. Then glue up two parts together. Something like that.

I keep my filament holder on the side like this. The filament goes more naturally in the feeder I think. Just have to notice that I cant use full Z-hight capacity.

Medium size bins cooking here(y)

Wow, you have some nice looking drawers my friend! 👍

Jay

Thanks Jay! I try to keep my drawers clean;)

Printed organizer bins look great! I'm about to embark on some printed drawer organizers myself.

Thanks Mr Miller! Looking for an update from those(y)

Trying not to take the plunge, but on the other hand Christmas is coming and I haven't found anything for myself yet :p Any tips or advice where I should look at in Finland if going for the Ender 3? Anything that should be included or got at the same time?

Sounds like a perfect plan Matias! On the other hand you could buy 3d printer before Christmas and print a present for everyone else:LOL:

I bought mine from here 3D-CADSOLUTIONS but looks like they are out of stock at the moment. Very nice one guy company and the customer service is great too. I believe those were out of stock when I ordered and it took about 1.5 weeks to deliver. You have to ask about the delivery time.

If you go with the Creality ender 3V2 model I recommend a stiffer spring set for a first modification. I ordered mine from Aliexpress and the bed stays now straight no matter what. I failed couple prints because the bed wasn't straight and the print didn't stick properly. The original springs are a bit too loose and the bed moves when it gets warm. However I did a lot of prints with the original springs.

From the filaments the PLA is where to start, Easy to use and durable for inside the house/workshop things. I print PLA on the class side of the bed. There's a course side and a glass side on the bed, I've had a better luck with the glass side. The class needs to be washed with dish soap every now and then between prints. It has to be grease free so no finger prints or so. PLA is a bit greasy too. PLA sticks nice to the class side and when the print is ready and the bed cools down print comes loose by itself. When printing the nozzle heats up to 200C and the bed to 60C. The Ender 3V2 prints only PLA/TPU/PETG and the filament needs to be 1.75mm thick. With 3.5kg experience I've been happy with Real Filament stuff.

For start I took 1kg roll of PLA and one roll of PETG but haven't use PETG so much. It's good and strong stuff and weather proof but needs more heat to print nice. Maybe a enclosure for the printer too for bigger parts to keep the heat constant. I've had some adhesion problems with PETG.

Well that's a good packet to go far. I'm no expert so there's a punch of videos on Youtube to look and learn(y)

Tapio, came across this, thought you and others may find it interesting. It's a video on Facebook about how one person makes these kinds of bonsai "trees:"
<SNIP>

I've been tinkering some bonsai trees from aluminum/copper wire when I'm not feeling like to go in the workshop or my back hurts. It's a nice hobby and these trees lasts more then one season:LOL:

This is my fourth and I think this is the best looking this far. It's a cheap hobby too, all you need is round nose pliers and some wire.

<SNIP>

Still a lot of learning with the silhouette but going in the right direction(y)

-The Pokemon hunter-

New project in the workshop. There's a story behind this thing. It's been sitting outside my neighbor company's backyard for years. So at least 7 to 8 years under the weather. I think it's even more when it's been driven.

It's a Bombardier rally 200 from 2003. There's a reason why it's been abandoned. It's the worst thing that Bombardier have ever made
I've had a couple of Bombardier/Can-am atv's. 650 and 400 Can-am Outlanders and I have to say the performance and quality is pretty top notch.
But this thing, It looks like a full size atv but has 175cc motor with rear wheel drive only. So I'm not sure what is the use for this thing. Not offroading for sure and it's too big and clumsy for racing on dirt. But I guess in early days when the atv's came popular 14hp was a big deal.

How I got it

One night couple months ago it was dark and the rain was pouring big time. I was watching a movie in living room and it was late. I heard some noise from my neighbors backyard. I went outside and took a peak over the fence, there was a car with a trailer and couple guys doing something. I thought they were bringing trash to the neighbors dumpster. it's happened before.

I went back inside and was ready to leave them to do their shady business. Then I was like Damn, I go to give them some "feedback" from trespassing at nighttime to my neighbors yard. I put my power pants on and went to the yard. They were already leaving and were packing up the car but the driver couldn't back up with the trailer:LOL:
He started driving forward and I came from the shadows in front of their car looking angry I guess. They jumped big time and hit the gas pedal to the floor and almost drove over me. They left from the scene with squealing tires.

I wondered at the yard and quickly noticed that the atv and one of the trailers was gone. I'm glad that I pressed the licence plate on my mind. I called the police right away and went back inside.

Next day the police called me and asked what time they can bring the trailer and atv back:LOL: No harm was done and the shady guys was old friends of police. I think they got a big fine to pay, again..

My neighbor took me to dinner and gave the atv to me to hold on. Also money to fix and drive with it if I want. Well you know me, I'm always on to a new project.

I have a lot of projects going but the more I imagined a military/hunter style atv the more I got exited with it.

So here we are, a project called the Pokemon hunter:LOL: I think it's the only thing to do with this vehicle for the kids. Maybe I can do some fishing or camping trips with it on summertime.

To my surprise this thing is made in Taiwan. Some of the parts is made in Canada. There's a BRP factory in Finland too but they make only snowmobiles and 6x6 atv's.

There were some antifreeze left so no cracks in the engine or radiator. The frame is rusty but only from surface. Exhaust is pretty much gone. Pitted badly and all things inside the muffler is loose and can be poured out from the end.

Damn! She makes it look so easy:love: I liked the tree with different color leafs. Not sure how she joins the red wire on to the branches. Looks like next tree project is one the way(y)

Nice project, especially as it doesn't have a tight deadline or strict restrictions on what to do with it. But a slow going project? Let's see ;) BTW, everyone needs neighbours like you. It's always good to know someone is looking out if you're away...

Thanks Matias! Yes it is a fun project. I guess you guys know me already too well about the "slow project" thing.. What can you do when the excitement hits

Yes we have a unofficial neighborhood watch, especially when my neighbors is around 7 to 17.00. It's a company so the place is empty other times + I'm an unofficial janitor of the place😅

-Pokemon hunter part 2-

I got the frame clean and out of rust. Just some wire wheel and light sanding. Rust spots I flap wheeled clean and it was time for primer and paint. I painted outside and got the parts inside overnight to dry.

20210823_153555-XL.jpg

After looking some inspirational pictures from net I decided to go semi gloss black with some mat black. So pretty murdered with one or two highlight colors.

There was a small bend on one of the footrest frames. I got it straight but small dent is still there to remind. NO offroading with this thing:LOL:

Next thing to check out was the engine. I drain it clean and opened the valve cover, clutch cover and flywheel cover. It was like new inside. I measured the valve clearance and run the motor with drill. No weird noises and both gears seems to work.
The engine case was pretty oxidised so I gave it the same treatment as the frame.

20210823_153539-XL.jpg

First a good wash with grease removal and IPA. Then some paint for the bottom first.

20210824_011113-XL.jpg

Then the rest of the engine. I used some etching primer and 2k motor paint. We'll see if it sticks..

20210824_143559-XL.jpg

20210824_143610-XL.jpg20210824_143619-XL.jpg

Already looks a lot better and uniform. Maybe better to wash clean too if we run over some Pokemons or Zombies..

When the paint was drying I took the carburetor apart. It was pretty much wasted. The choke piston was completely frozen inside the carb. I soaked it a day, heated it up but no luck. Eventually I drilled the choke piston off.

20210821_163219%20%282%29-XL.jpg

20210821_163603%20%282%29-XL.jpg

I searched a spare part but came across a new Mikuni VM24 carb for only 50€. Sold😅 Took a bag of jets too to sgueeze some horsepower out of the 4-tec:LOL:

Later I noticed why the motor is so clean. I hooked up the battery charger to the odometer to check if it works. This thing has a 1800km/1100miles on the odometer(y)

That's all for now. Have a great day guys!

Thanks Scyyb! Yeah sometimes a total mess. I always take pictures after cleaning to create an illusion:LOL: My workshop is only 20% finished. I do my work mostly on the not finished side.

I was prepared for pure fist fight. My old power sweatpants, no shirt and crocs sandals:LOL:

I once ask from Police what can I do to stop a criminal if the time comes, all you can do with bare hands is okay was the answer😅Otherwise you will be in same jail with the criminal.

Woah, you went to town on that! I liked the murdered out theme — easier to sneak up on Pokemon, too.

I enjoyed the thief story, they must have ran when they saw your Crocs :ROFLMAO:

Thanks Nick! These things are easy to take apart and start the build with a fresh frame. Biggest threat for atv's or dirtbikes is the pressure washer. If the seals aren't in perfect condition you can expect bearing problems and rusted bushings. That was the case with this one too.

I like how it's turning out with black on black. Makes it more updated to 2020 I think (y)

-The Pokemon hunter part 3-

After the frame and engine was dry I mounted the engine in the frame. I checked the thermostat and washed the cooling channels with hot water and citrus acid. Connected new breather hoses to engine too.

First task after the engine was the suspension and swingarms. I started with the shocks and springs.

I did a quick and dirty spring press from allthread and parts I had "laying around" (or arranged in bins and listed to drawers in alphabetical order) 😅

Made the spring work easy to take apart and put back together. The shocks was working just fine. I removed the rust and paint and re-painted them.

Looks a lot better. I thought that red would be a nice contrast color for black.

Well that's all for now. Have a great weekend guys!

Very nice. The chassis is looking great and I like the black/red combination on the shocks.

Thanks Z!

Great update! Looking forward to seeing this ATV project completed. I like the colour scheme.

Rudi.

Thanks Rudi!

-The Pokemon hunter part 4-

I continued with the swingarms. I guess it's a sign of well made product when there's a grease fittings on bushings. It was easy to take apart all the parts. There still was some old factory? grease left on the bushings so no rust issues on the swing axle. Both of the rear axle main bearings were gone. Old O-rings were broken so water got in on some point. I ordered new bearings and seals.

I wish that all factories could use tig welders. I'm not sure what kind of gas this factory was using but there's a ton of splatter from mig welding. It can make parts look like **** 😅 I have noticed that rusting is often located to the splatter area too..

Did some re-sanding with the swingarm and painted it again. Hard to get all splatter off from the nooks..

Looks a bit better now. I replaced all the grease fittings with angle-ones so they are easy to get and USE:ROFLMAO: I had some break bleeding fitting covers too. Keeps the ******* clean:love: I'm going to adjust the spring pre-load when all the weight is on..

Meanwhile the parts was shipping I cleaned and painted all the other parts. Sprockets were in good shape and there was still 5mm left on the brake disks. I looked new ones from the internet but there's not a lot of spare parts available for this thing. I managed to find new drive chain and brake pads tho.

Front swing arms and bearings were in excellent shape. Meanwhile some parts was drying I took the brake calibers apart. I was able to find new O-rings for those from my universal O-ring set.
The chassis was a good drying rack. I painted parts outside and took them inside to dry. It's getting a bit difficult cos there's a -5C degrees outside now🥶

IMG_1702-XL.jpg

All the parts clean and painted it was time to assemble things together. That's the best part! I like this way to do a project. Restore a part and but it back on the frame. Keeps all parts fresh and no storage issues with painted parts. I understand a "dry build" if there's a lot of modifications to do.

Fresh grease and locktite, New bolts if needed (or found) makes a difference.

I ordered new chain, a red one:love: Price was same with color or no color. It's a pretty hefty 520 chain for a small engine like this.

Well that's all for now. Have a great week guys!

What a fun and cool build you've got going! The red chain will make it faster.

Thanks for tuning in Trapps! Yes it has the same speed factor as cool stickers 😅

Brings back fond memories. I used to LOVE working on ATV's and snowmobiles. Having everything painted and going back together was an awesome experience. You're doing a great job and everything looks top notch.

Thanks Mike! Yes it sure is a fun stuff to do. Less things to do compered to car project. Better probabilities to be done some day😅

-The Pokemon hunter part 5-

More about brakes. It's always a challenge to get the brakes balanced on these things. There's a left hand lever that operates a rear brake via gable. Enables a nice slide turns and acts as a parking brake.
Right hand lever operates hydraulic brake (back and front) via cable to the foot brake main cylinder. Then there's a foot brake and it's the best option to stop fast if needed. So easy but complicated and lot's of moving parts😅

According to the rear brake pads brakes are not balanced from the factory or former driver was heavily left handed:LOL: Well I'm happy I find new pads. These are some universal pads and fits for many older models. Front pads are like new.

Parts clean, painted and ready for assembly with fresh copper paste, copper sealing rings and locktite.

Lines and banjo fittings were in good shape. Main cylinder too except one dust seal was broken. I didn't find new seal anywhere so I filled the space with heavy grease. Keeps the dust away.
Good quality brake lines, Meiji made in Japan low volume expansion BJ rubber hoses. Good thing to have with small brake fluid capacity.

One thing I didn't like was closed brake hose covers made from soft rubber. Not a very good shield and collects water inside the covers.
I bought some hydraulic hose shield. I think it adds some cool-factor to the hunter too🥷

Routed the lines and installed the reservoir. Scariest thing to do is to fill the lines and bleed the brakes. Brake fluid is the BEST paint remover😅 I was super careful and used a vacuum brake bleeder. A piece of plastic around the bleed ****** is a good method to avoid mess with brake fluid. One drop and whole chassis is back on pure metal:LOL:
I have to balance the brakes properly when I get this thing running. It's starting to look so nice that I don't want to cover it with the ugly plastic covers:ROFLMAO:

That's all for now. Have a great day guys!
