T Stat Question and Advice

I have a 15 year old Honeywell Chronotherm III T stat running the heat and AC in my 2,000 square foot office.

It started clicking (it is working now) intermittently Friday AM and I changed the Batteries. It is still clicking now and again. This coincides with the cold snap we have been experiencing.

I did call the company who we have a service contract with but since this is not a NO HEAT emergency they cannot tell me exactly when they will be able to come out.

Its 7 degrees outside so I don't want it to go down.

Any suggestions for a fix?

Also, any suggestions for a replacement? They no longer make this unit and if we install a new one, I would like to be able to control it via WiFi from my phone when I am off site as long as they are reliable and somewhat easy to use.

Are you talking about the click it makes when it calls for heat?

I mean to say...they do click whenever that happens. At least mine all do.

Is this something other than that?

It is that click, but not just on and then it runs. It clicks 3-7 times rapidly and then stops and randomly starts clicking again every so often.

Gotcha. Yeah...not supposed to do that.

I don't have one of the wifi t-stats yet. Seems like Nest is all the rage.

Mine started to do that before failing. I replaced it with a Sensi.

How long have you had this sense unit. Curious how you line it. I’ve really only come up with tbe nest as WiFi. T stats where there are a lot of reviews and people are happy. .

I've had a WiFi thermostat: lyric T5 by Honeywell for over a year now and have been very please with it. It has never gone down aside from total power loss to my home and is WiFi, programmable and geofence capable as well. It also has a predictive setting so that I program the time I get home from work and it monitors the outside, inside and commanded temperature then turns the heat or air on early enough to be at the commanded temperature when I arrive. I have the geofence set up on my wife's phone since her arrival times can vary and if she gets within 12 miles of the house, the thermostat will activate to reach the predetermined temperature even if it is outside of the usual program. By the same token, if she takes the day off, it will hold the last temp until she leaves instead of what's programmed. Anyway, it works very well for our needs. Also, you can lock the controls so it can't be adjusted without a passcode.

I've had the Sensi for about a year and a half. VERY happy with it. App on phone works, I can access it through a web page. Saved me last year. I was in Florida, and my new (smaller) oil tank ran dry. It was -25. I could watch as the temp was dropping and the Sensi was still calling for heat. Knew there was a problem right away, so I sent a family member over right away to take care of things.
