For what it's worth, the local WalMart Distribution Center just went through and replaced all their low bay MH fixtures with 4 lamp T5HO's due to the energy/cost savings. Something else to consider, I know Home Depot's were previously built using MH low bays but now are also using T5HO's. MH fixtures also take a few minutes to restrike after being shut off. Just a few things to consider when choosing. Lithonia is a name brand lighting manufacturer. www.lithonia.com

no it wasn't the i beams,it looks like a standard 4 tube 4 ft light fixture, but has 6 t5 bulbs. and they had reflectors.maybe something new? the sales person said they are switching their warehouse over to them.also said they where fast sellers.they wrote the part # down for me but i'm not sure if it's their # for them or lithonia's #. 1b654L?

Sorry, I've only checked out the I-beams at the electrical supply house.
I do think there is something to fixture design in regards to optimizing the use of the light produced by the bulbs, and went the way of the Raptor fixtures.

FWIW, I think you should buy a fixture and try it out, T-8's are ok, but your on the right track with T5ho's IMO.
