If the lamp is not listed on the ballast label, nope, it may operate but can shorten lamp, or ballast life if not used w/ the proper lamp/ballast combo.

Googling around I've seen some ballast's that are listed for both and some that are not, checking to see if there is a difference in ballast design or simply labeling. Too high of an output voltage would be the only way to shorten life. I didn't think there would be much design difference between manufacturers regarding output. As far as limiting current if the ballst can handle F96 lamps F72's should be no problem. I was checking if anybody had hands-on experience.
