Yes, if the fixture is made to be hardwired.

The $9.98 shop light fixtures were not designed to be hard wired, I have 2 over my bench and I just ran some wiremold up to about 10" from the ceiling and installed an outlet I have a switch about 6" above my bench that controls those. Good luck and stay safe.

a cheapie shop light with a cord, just knock out the strain relief, drill with a Unibit to the size of a Greenfield connector, then go nuts. BTDT. Then Greenfield/THHN (or AC if you have it) to your ceiling box.
