The Kobalt table saw usually goes on sale for BF for $199 before coupon. I believe it's a re-branded Delta. http://www.lowes.com/pd_486267-52010-KT1015___?productId=50056619&pl=1&Ntt=kobalt+table+saw

Stealth is correct, I bought a Kobalt last year on Black Friday for very little money while I was out of state working on one of my houses. It was total junk, nothing lined up and spent ages tramming it and trying to make it square when I realized the front edge of the table top & fence mounting was not square to the miter gauge slots or blade, it wasn't even close and there was no way to adjust that so It went back. Anything that was adjusted would go out of whack quickly other than it was great.

I really liked the attached collapsable legs on wheels, that was awesome.

The best BF tablesaw deal last year was the Dewalt DW-745 but it was the older version, it was selling for $275 not sure what will happen this year but also check Amazon.

The rest of the BF tablesaw deals were not really any deals.

Thanks I was wondering if the kobalt was any good, sounds like it is not what I want.
I just sold my similar quality one and looking for a more accurate saw, I don't want one that needs constantly adjusting when I push the plywood through getting stuck and jamming due to "unparallelness"

The dewalt dw745 caught my eye, the price is now $299 everyday on amazon and Home Depot. Reviews are almost all good.

For some reason even it is supposed to be online only my local hd has a few boxes labeled special buy for $299 and I picked one up. If it goes down to like $199 for BF I am going to do a return and rebuy. Also, it is made in Taiwan and accessories made in China

Guessing you got a bad saw. Most of the reviews for the kobalt table saw that I've seen are pretty good really. I'm planning on picking one up this BF, already have the Lowe's GC's.

but HD has much better tool brands than Menards and Lowes :dunno:

HD:
Dewalt, Makita, Milwaukee, Ridgid, Porter Cable, Bosch for power tools
For hand tools they carry some Channellock, Mayhew pry bars, Milwaukee pliers

Lowes:
Dewalt, Hitachi, Bosch, Porter Cable for Lowes
For hand tools, they are about 60% Kobalt, 30% Blue Hawk (****), and 10% low-end Stanley. They carry about the same amount of Channellock as HD. They should have never replaced Knipex with Southwire

never been to Menards, but from what I can remember about the one time I've been on the website, I wasn't overly impressed with the brand selection.

Nope, I went back and measured three more ts's and all had similar problems.

The fence is not good for repeat cuts, it has too much play while adjusting and clamping and it's time consuming to get an accurate cut every time after moving the fence. I would have to use a large rafter square to line up the fence while locking it down but while locked the fence does not move which is nice for a saw this size.

It had potential but simply not worth it to anyone who is serious or wants reliable repeatable cuts even at the low price. The DeWalt is simply a no brainer compared to the Cobalt.

If the DW745 is still around (only rips to 24"+) I would be shocked if there wasn't some super low BF price for them but what do I know; last years BF was mostly a bust.

For a portable ts and price, the DeWalt fence is unmatched. It's excellent and I prefer it to the Bosch.

I have been using the dw745 and it is light weight but fairly accurate.. the only thing is that the riving knife is really hard to adjust and the miter gauge is sloppy. There's supposed to be a tape to shim the miter gauge but forgot what it is called?

I agree the DW745 I got this year for a penny free is awesome. I used it for the first time the last two weekends. I have an old Craftsman with the clamp down fence, what a hassle to get it squared. The Dewalt with the adjustable knob is very accurate and square.

I just ordered the Dewalt DW7440RS Rolling Table Saw Stand from rakuten, It was 149 but after I applied for the Credit Card I got it for 69.99 delivered after the instant 80,000 points. Can't wait till it gets here.

IMHO it all depends on what your doing, what your buying a tablesaw for.

The needs of a framing carpenter are very different then a cabinet maker.

I understand that everybody here wants to get a cabinet saw for 199.99 but lets be realistic.
Personally even a crooked & bent Kobalt would probably be better then the old Montgomery Ward I run...its built 2 houses and 3 garages. I wouldn't even attempt to do cabinet work with it.

Well I wouldn't say you can't do cabinet work with it. I did cabinet work with my Craftsman table saw. I had to install a Thomasville kitchen in my house with the sub $150 Craftsman and even though I had to adjust the fence several times it came out great. I even had to cut 5 inches off of two extra shaker door panels so I could make them the same width as the other two to put in front of my island. They came out so straight that you can't tell I had cut them at all. Plenty of Installers use portable table saws for detailed work, just build a good extensions for it and it should work out.

I agree, The setup is important.

In building a house you really don't need to table saw. I have easily gotten away with a miter saw and circular saw with a good long straight edge guide.

The reason you want a ts on a job site is for it's quickness and ease of making fine cuts. If the TS takes a long time to use because of it's sloppy parts and set up time then there's no point.

A TS that quickly gives you straight accurate cuts, that you can just walk up to and set the fence and let it rip with confidence, then that's worth something.

A good solid extension table and quality fence is easily worth it's weight, if the ts is not accurate and needs fiddling then it's better that it sits in your storage or better yet; that it stays on the store shelf. I rather use a circular saw than a sloppy TS.

You can do some very nice, beautiful work with a Dewalt and a Rousseau table saw extension.

I bought a Ridgid portable last year from HD at black friday time for $199. it has served me quite well. fence does a reasonable job of squaring itself and stays that way. you need to double check any fence really. the dewalt did go on sale last year after black friday for 225 though as the 745 is only stocked seasonally. if you can wait, that is the deal.

this guy.

On the Home Depot site the review section shows some people have the 745 recessed in a much larger table. It will rip Full sheets that way. Good idea imo. But I am just using it to rip small pieces and cut laminate it is perfect for that kind of stuff. I would rip down the baseboard by an inch on any table saw even if it binds a little

Full cabinet work or try to build a large subwoofer would mean ideally no slop and everything as square as possible. A lot of it is the skill of the wood worker but is not something I would do on a little benchtop unit as no matter what when you push a 30" wide piece things are going to move unless the full size table is built around it with your external fence.

Yea thats the table I wanted but way to expensive. All I really need is a extension, I'll make one out of some steal tubing and finish plywood with a formica top on it for under 40 bucks. I only have 69 bucks in the in my table saw and stand for now, I'm a cheap ******* don't want to spend much.

between the Bosch 12 glide miter saw that I got for 149 dollars on a Lowe's online error a few years ago and a cheap Craftsman miter stand for 39. I have a total of 260 in both table saw, miter saw, and stands.

Would love a Bosch gravity stand for the miter saw but 299 is way out of my budget.

Menards has Bosch, Hitachi, and within the last few months have started selling Knipex hand tools.

Home Depot seems to be the best of the three for power tool options.

I've had the 745 for a year and it's proven to be plenty accurate for making cabinets. First thing to do is toss the miter gauge in the trash. Replace the blade (I use a Freud rip blade) and spend an afternoon making a good crosscut sled and you are in business. For angled cuts I use my miter saw - I don't ever mess with the 745's blade angle, I just keep it square and it keeps cutting square.
