Ok. I'm going to be rude again.

Don't people know that basically everything has degraded nowadays?

How can anyone expect to buy a new drill press for $200 when a damn cup of fancy coffee is $7, and many spend $20 on Lunch ???

WHY.. would anyone consider one of those POS when there are other options ??

I just don't get it.

I think it's something about like clothes washers that look like frickin R2D2 that impresses the Jonese's, but has a $700 repair bill from a failed brain board 2 years after purchase.

How STUPID to buy one of those.

Darn TV show people walk into a home kitchen that is better than 98% of people in the World have... and what is their first comment?

"Needs updating"

Frickin Morons.

Here's the deal... Basically almost all of power tools in the "consumer" market are garbage.

If you do not want garbage, but need for whatever reason New, then go to high dollar mostly European.

OR ....... old USA Arn.

It's really that simple.

So many used machines available, but yet many keep looking and buying the total **** that comes in ... even they make the cardboard boxes cheap ***.. china.

I dunno, really do not get it.

I have been watching for a large bench top drill press for awhile on CL and marketplace and not finding what I want out the 100's of used drill presses out there. I have the standard issues delta bench top, 8" or so. It's just too short for me so I have been looking for a 12". At this point I'm thinking a new Bailgh drill press. Around $350 or so, that is about double of the price of the closest I'm finding to what I want.

I'll reiterate my earlier post... Why can't you just replace the chuck?

Cause its a ryobi and its ready to be added t0 the garage sale items my wife has plans on having :) Plus it allows me to get something new :)

This indirect donation allows me to get her shopping with garage sales moola and I get to play with much much better machine, hopefully, at least thats my plan.

Naw Id never butcher one, I have been in talks with the seller of that DP you posted he restores them if you go to his web site and does a fantastic job. Seems like a great guy his name is James

Now that I know what I would love to find it makes it harder a bench top 150 with Veri-slo is my perfect DP

Sounds like you have seen the light, and on the right track Brother !

I don't know if you have seen one of those or similar in real life yet ..

With your eyes and hands on it..

And lifting it....

If not, you will be amazed as how it is totally different than what is on the sub 1k market today.

Literally no reason why it will not last multiple Generations.

Sounds like you found a great connection.

Would be great for you to post link to his website.

Maybe in that thread linked above for posterity, ... AND here ?

So the Ryobi cheapo I have intermittently used over the last few years, well today it decided to say drop the damn drill one too many times for my sanity, The chuck just is not good for anything but really light duty and the runout is like well ****.

So I have a few bucks to buy something nicer to put on my bench and looking for suggestions. Back in the day I lusted over the Delta DP300L the lasers blew my mind back then.

So I am looking for your suggestions, what is the go to for better quality table top

Thanks

What's your location?

This is my new machine :)

Bought a basket case and had my friend in Moorepark clean it up a bit. The VariSlo was a basket case and needed some tig welding as you can see but everything works perfectly and quiet. While its not a bench top model I am thrilled with my new press.
