Hello everyone, I'm new here and I seen a post about paint on a front door being tacky. I painted my front door black and yes it was a humid day but my air was on and it was nice and cool in the house. My front door is still tacky and does not have a smooth finish. It's a aluminum door. Should I strip the paint off? I need assistance. Paint was from lowes. I told the employee what type of door I had. Your thoughts

What paint did you use?
Rustoleum? Or ???
Acrylic ?
Did you brush, spray, or use a roller?
Did you do just one coat? If multiple coats did you wait the prescribed time in between coats?
When I painted bare aluminum, the paint guy said I had to use a special primer. I assume your door had a factory paint already.

Hello, thanks for writing. It was acrylic exterior primer paint duramax from lowes. I used a small roller as the guy instructed me. A lady helped me with the paint several days before. I am guilty of not letting it completely dry between coats. What can I do? Buy a new door? My door was white but I cannot remember what the contractor said to do when I painted the door. My bad.

You don’t need to buy a new door. Weird that it’s not setting up, is there a chance the paint wasn’t mixed well?
Worst case, you may need to strip it, but there are decent paint strippers available now that aren’t too nasty.

I've seen latex paint on hot, humid days stay sort of tacky or sticky for a long time.
not sure why, must be something with the drying / curing that gets weird

I've had a few projects that took a long time to cure, days worth. Seems you are at that point, is it any better than before?

Has it gotten any better? Like some spots are sticky but the rest is ok? Or, still the same basically as it has been all week? I would think at this point some of it should be better. Do you leave a finger print in it or just a tacky touch?

Still tacky? If so, then removing the paint and starting over with a new primer and paint for metal surfaces is probably the recovery that is needed.
