Something that I am noticing more & more on this forum are trolls leaving angry/inappropriate/non-beneficial tags to other member's threads. The sole reason that this is occurring is that anyone can anonymously tag any & every thread with no recourse.

I enjoy GarageJournal because of the positive, helpful, and interesting posts & members here ---- and a few of them are obvious trolls that think it is funny to berate people who they dont like.

I suggest that either tags be limited to :

1. The OP & Mods only
2. Tags disabled entirely
3. Or publicly list who is placing tags on posts --- so the troll members can be banned.

Here are just a few threads with inappropriate tags that I have read today :

http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=300927
http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=301156
http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=301112

99.9% of people here are good members that want to contribute.....dont let the 0.1% that are trolls ruin the experience for the rest of us.

Yeah, I don't think suggesting a member is a female body part is an appropriate use of tags.

The maturity level is high these days. I just ignore them, I have several of my personal threads with awful tags, not sure why people need to do it, but I guess it makes them feel better about themselves?

Tags are the little snippy comments down at bottom of post. I tend to ignore them.

OP is right, these are getting out of hand. Software for forum needs to expose who continues to post those bad ones.

The real purpose of tags SHOULD be to use Search/Filtering to find topics that you are looking for . . . not make smart **** remarks.

Mods can see who wrote each tag. That being said, individually PMing every person who is abusing the system is going to be a time **** if we decide to go after them.

Thanks for explaining tags guys. Never even notice them. I find it easiest to search for a thread using Google.

Some of these inappropriate tags seem directed at a member CORALNUT who appears to be banned. I'm not familiar with him, but why is he banned?

Personally, I'd vote to just disable them. Search engines do an excellent job of finding relevant content without them so all they do is provide an outlet for offensive juvenile behavior.

I usually ignore them anyway...

Not sure but I believe most get banned for name calling, drama, multiple accounts or a combination.

Bull,

Something needs to be done. It's a little childish and getting out of hand. Makes the forum seem like it's gone down hill imo.

I don't understand how tags are relevant. They are usually worthless words. Do people really pay attention to them?:dunno:

But maybe they should only be allowed if they actually relate to the thread. Like in the Vise thread, only tags like jaws, anvil, etc. Then they shouldn't offend anyone.

Maybe we need a Mod that just does tags. Any volunteers?
