It seems there are minds on here for fabrication that i wish i could have. I am in the need of some help designing this changing table. It weights approx 50lbs and it needs to be mounted on the wall with a hing of some sort. The only problem is the design of the tail gate. Any recommendations. I was thinking of using the ones below with a gas shock or something so it is easy to close and open.

I like the idea. Are you asking how to attach the hinges to the wall? Or how to latch the gate to the wall in the up position? I'm assuming you don't want this recessed into the wall?

The hinges you have in the attachment look easy enough to get onto the wall with some sort of angle iron bracket, you just have to find the nearest stud on each side.

The bottom is the same way.

It might look better if you just built a wooden box around it, and used that to attach it to the wall, and then you can use the fasteners through the back plywood to attach to the wall. If you get real creative, you can add some shelves to the box to hold things also.

Is it possible to get both sides of the truck bed to attach the gate to? If so, you can make a nice wall hanging and attach it easily to the wall.

My biggest issue is the latching mechanism. On the new truck it is in the center and i can just mount a latch on the wall. However on this tail gate it is on both sides. Making it that much more difficult. Trying to surprise my wife for her birthday since she loves this thing, and we have a new born.

We found the tailgate at a pick and part one day. She said she had to have it, so i spent two hours getting it off the damaged truck it was on.

Make a box frame much like the bed of the truck then mount the stock pivot hardware and latch setup to the frame and mount the frame on the wall. The frame can be made of metal or wood.

Txvwnut has the right idea. If you can't use the stock style locks, I would think some powerful magnets would hold the gate up without much trouble.

Hardest part is finding the original style locks for that install on the side of the fender. I will keep looking. Will keep you update with what i end up going with. My upload a rudimentary sketch when i get a chance.

Yes the basic idea. I think i would be in serious trouble if i put our new born on that tailgate in the article.

Great idea. To one up this, it would be nice to cut the rear of the box sides and mount them on the wall along with the tail lights so it looks like you have the entire rear of the truck on the wall.

NYBODYMAN has the right idea! But if you don't have that part of the truck or can't get. I think I would build a wood frame around it that would be attached to the wall, so when it was closed you couldn't see the exposed sides of the tailgate. But even then it's going to stick out from the wall a ways. Neat idea, looking forward to seeing the end result.

I like that as just a shelf out in the shop. Maybe mount it up high for things to store that are rarely used.

When the diaper stage is over, drop it down the wall some for a nice little bench. He can hang out with you and nap in the coming years...
