I'd say either a nice piece of stainless on the back or plexi-glass so you can still see the contours to keep the cool look. Plus plexi is cheap enough that you can replace it if needed.

Can you post pics of your flatbed? I've been thinking about doing one for an older truck I'm working on.

this it the only pic i have now..

low buck bulid.. 4x4s for the cross members and 2x10 running front to back.. made a metal bracket to hang the gas filler, not pictured here.. used led trailer taillights as brake/turns. spliced into the trailer harness connector for all the lights and left factory truck harness untouched incase i find another bed i can bolt it up and not have to change anything.. amazon liscence plate light which already needs replacing, and hockey pucks to lift the flatbed "frame" off the truck frame a little bit.. added 6 tiedown spots.. have scrapped enough metal on it already to pay off the cost of building it..

i just really miss being able to throw small stuff in the bed and not have to worry about it going anywhere.. right now i ratchet strapped 4 milk crate oing along the cab so i can have a place for some small stuff
