Well, I suspect like most folks on this forum, there are tasks I like doing, and tasks I don’t.

Top of my ”unpopular” list is applying sealant / caulk. I hate the stuff to work with, it’s a nightmare to clean up, and the guns all keep the stuff flowing long after I’ve stopped squeezing.

The long term option is probably one of these Makita cordless sealant guns. But, it’s a lot of money for something I use twice a year or so, and of course yet another battery platform.

Working with a friend recently, he had one of these, a Tajima sealant gun. Although they look conventional (perhaps better made than most) when you release the trigger, it immediately retracts the plunger by about 1/4”, shutting off the flow from the cartridge instantly. I had to get one.

Such a simple thing, but it makes all the difference in use. These totally transform the job. Cost was equivalent of about $20.

Saw a Tajima in the store about 8 years ago for the first time.

I got one that day and it has been a great gun. It gets used a few times a year.

Well worth the cost.

The tube ooze is definitely minimized with this one.

I just finished a caulking job with a conventional caulk gun and I hated the amount of after ooze when I stopped squeezing. I remembered at the time thinking, I’d give lots of $$ to get a gun that didn’t do that. So, thanks for your post finding this tool, and curse you for finding another tool I must buy!

Tajima are great guns. a bit different leverage that may take a bit to get used to, but I pumped hundreds of tubes of caulk and they held up great . the older one is a tad sloppy but it's had a ton of use.

I didn’t know about Albion. Yes, looks like they do a gun that works the same way.

“after ooze” - yes, that was the term I was looking for.

I was quite surprised at the range on offer. I’ll probably acquire one of the high leverage ones as well.

Tajima seem to put just that extra bit of thought and effort into their products. They could have painted them all plain red, but they use metallic paint! Nice touch.

The Tajima manual gun you posted looks great. Just about all the battery platforms have a caulk gun option. I have an older DeWalt 18v that I use with a battery adapter and DeWalt 20V slide-on packs. It works great and I think I paid $10 (basic gun, not with adapter and battery) for it at a thrift shop.

Yes, I did look at some of the options.

Bosch and Makita both offer guns in their 18V line, and I’m sure very good, but also quite pricey.

I can get the Makita 12v or the Milwaukee 12v, with a battery and charger, for less than the Bosch or Makita 18v, which I have batteries for.

That was a good deal for $10!

I bought the Milwaukee M12 caulking gun kinda on a whim. It was on a deep sale at HD for $99 for the bare tool.

It sat in the Packout for over a year. I busted it out a few weeks ago to apply a bunch of foam adhesive to some 1" blue board I am using to insulate our basement before furring out the walls.

Easily the coolest thing I have ever bought in the M12 line. Works awesome. Pulls back after application. Plenty of torque to push out some hardened caulk and has adjustable speed of application. Love it.
