Mixed feelings on what is exactly one turn of a wrench/ratchet!?!

Is there a difference between one turn vs one full turn(or the same)?

Some say one turn is 180o, while others say 360o...

just curious!

been busting knuckles for over 30yrs and just wondering on other peoples input here!!!

I use the same technique, but instead of relying on extra helpers I utilize my own ego. I just stand there on the ladder and hold the light bulb while the world revolves around me.

I was already thoroughly enjoying reading this thread but this made me laugh.

This is pretty funny!!!! Seriously i did google this question and this website was suggested... I've been in construction for over 20yrs. - residential home remodel on the nicest homes in the San Diego area(i'm talking professional athletes and then some) to laboratories for the government and turning a wrench on autos for over 30yrs.
Just asking a serious question that could have several opinions all i was looking for! The 360o i agree with, but if told to tighten to 75lbs and back off 4 turns, 4 360o turns of a bolt sounds pretty extreme(just for instance)?

The closest legit advice is to torque to spec + angle. Notice that using angle eliminates the ambiguity, and is almost always a fractional turn (<360 deg). You may also be told to tighten to "a stop" (ie to some point) and back off 1/4 or 1/6 turn or something. Based on know thread pitch this will generate a known clearance (without using a feeler gauge--useful for field repairs/emer-x).

In aviation airplanes make stadardized rate one turns.

Depending On speed the turn tha plane makes is always the same radius.

Rate one is defined as three degrees per second or 180 degrees per minute or a full 360 degrees in two minutes.

So unrelated to garage tools but since aviation has such a close affinity to all things mechanical maybe 1 turn is 180 degrees

Hillbilly slim. I cant say i remember seeing an instruction of any type require a particular torque measurement. And then backed off 4 turns.and tho im experienced in several areas longer than 30 years.ive learned since being a member of g j,that i learn from the wealth of knowledge from the guys on here daily!and as far as your turn question,i would say that the answer relates to the position of the fastener not the ratchet.

every time you use a wrench/ratchet, it's gets it's turn to be used. It counts as 3 turns when using it while listening to The Byrds...
