Please keep in mind it is still very rough, but I'm having a hard time figuring out whether or not to continue the file work all the way down the handle or stop where it is. The blade material is D2 so it's a real pain to hand file.
Also, any opinions on what to do for a handle material?
Inlays?
Ivory? Silver?

I'm pretty much going to go with whatever GJ decides. Just want it to be eye pleasing.

Looks good to me. It integrates well with where you might put your thumb.

I modified a Buck Open Season with carbon fiber grips I machined grooves in. That's about my extent of making a knife.

Sometimes, less is more, especially if you are building this to use and not just look at. As far as handle material, again, use or looks? My personal preference is wood, but again, that's me.

I was starting to build one from an old lawn mower blade when I was at the hardware store, but it and a few other trinkets stayed when I left. The store closed shortly afterward and I wasn't able to get them.

This is the struggle lol. I want it to be functional but I haven't ever really made a decorative one before. I'm. It really into the look of mosaic pins but I like the detail work that can be put into the scales and steel itself. I have some mother of pearl, ivory, silver, and antler I can use as inlays. I may have enough deer antler to use as full scales if I section it correctly.

Just a suggestion....make the handle out of a wood that has some unique grain striation (Bubinga, Zebrawood, etc)

Then where you have your filed design....take a fill it with some turquoise powder stone....

If you use a plain grained wood, maybe carve a like design in the handle side and fill it with the powdered stone

:dunno: just an idea....

Here are a few knives I have touched or the rimnent's I have been able to take a picture of after someone cleaned up, first is a picture of the knife in my pocket today and the size of it compared to a size / style similar to yours and the second smaller size that i like closer to 8" but I like a closing blade, autos are nice and legal

I have layed it out closely enough for you to get a Idea of a way to finnish with no handle but I understand it isn't that fun to polish :p My testing of it has been to feel a sharpened blade and I touched a piece of it to my band saw with a fine tooth blade and it didn't like it.
this is .250

FYI a friend has a milling machine and laughs when this guy tells him how hard it is so he laid it down plunged into it .050 it talks a little, then when the feed starts its like cutting nuttin.

I respect your patience and appreciate the fine art you have shared.

I don't think you can go wrong with file work like that. I'd like it where you, and I'd like it if you went on towards the end. Honestly don't think one would be better than the other. Different looks, both desirable.

yeah I know. I'm no help at all. :)

File work, like engraving, is pretty if done sparingly. I like hidden tang with Micarta and wood sections alternating.

I am limited to a magnet and a torch so I stay away from D2. Have you tried 52100 or CruforgeV? I finish out with black moly resin .
