Taking Racedeck tiles apart

Received my shipment of RaceDeck tiles and getting ready to install them. Since they come in assemblies of 4 tiles hooked together I will need to take a few of these apart for various areas like the border. What's the best way to separate the hooked together tile without damaging them. There are instructions on the carton about how to lay them out and assemble them, but I didn't see anything on how to disassemble them.

Um, you just pull them apart. It is that simple.

Tried that - felt like it was going to break the pegs or loops off first which I guess will separate them but I would like to reuse them.

When I received my tiles, I watched the short video on their web site about how to do just that. After about three minutes of trying it, I was able to do it with zero trouble. For me, I found that a stiffer-bladed putty knife worked a bit easier than a more bendable knife.

It's much easier than that. Hold the tiles surface up in front of you. Lift your knee up and smack the tiles over your raised leg with the joint aligned over your leg. They will snap loose with little effort. After a couple practice tries you will get the hang of it.

Thanks - I'll give the stiff putty knife and the over the knee a try and see what works best for me.

Over the knee worked great for me. You only need the putty knife once they've been installed.

Over the knee worked for me just fine. A VERY stiff putty knife works when once the tiles are installed and you need to correct a error in your pattern or such. Straight out of the carton I used the knee method. CJDave.

That's what I finally concluded. Banging them over my knee separated them fine.
